The Druids' Ultimatum

Diplomatic action

1564 AM

The Druids, once simply seekers of knowledge, had become secret teachers and champions of the common people, particularly those who demonstrated an aptitude for magic. They had watched with growing concern as the conflict between the ruling class and the lower classes escalated. Believing that the once harmonious kingdom was on the brink of falling into chaos, they decided to intervene.

Three centuries into the reign of magic in Riverhold, societal tensions had reached a critical boiling point. The lower and upper classes were embroiled in a conflict that was becoming increasingly violent, erupting into riots and protests. The ruling class, fearful of losing control, responded with heavy-handed and often brutal crackdowns. This relentless oppression, instead of quelling the rising tide, only stoked the flames of resentment and resistance amongst the populace.   The Druids presented an ultimatum to king Thrain Valthorien, demanding an end to the brutal suppression of the lower classes, equal access to education, and the abolishment of restrictions on learning magic for all citizens. The ultimatum also explicitly called for a broad-based representation in governance, pushing for a system that would no longer favor the aristocracy but represent all layers of society.   Negotiations between The Druids and the King's council were tense and drawn out. The ruling class balked at the demand for more democratic governance, viewing it as a direct threat to their entrenched power. The idea of common people having a say in governance was unthinkable. Likewise, they feared that opening up magic to all would lead to an uncontrollable wave of upheaval.   On the other side, The Druids stood firm in their demands, arguing that the monarchy's stranglehold on power was stifling the kingdom's growth and causing unnecessary suffering amongst its people. They argued for a more egalitarian society where opportunities for growth and learning weren't the exclusive privilege of the few.   Despite The Druids' best efforts, the negotiations eventually collapsed. The ruling class's refusal to relinquish their power and privilege led to a stalemate. The Druids, sticking to their ultimatum, declared their intention to secede from the kingdom. They vowed to establish a separate society, one built on the principles of equality and freedom, where magic and knowledge were accessible to all.   Previous event
