The Proving District
The Proving District is the final stop for artist's of the Skywall before they submit their final work to the king, whether it be a painting, a sculpture, a dance, or whatever form of art one practices. It is here that harsh critics and debonair negotiators judge the works, to see if they are worthy of the king's attention. Six judges are appointed from among neutral parties in the District, and examine the work for any faults. This can mean structural integrity for sculptures, composition for music, and myriad other criteria. Debates and discussion between these judges can take anywhere from a few seconds, to several days. Often, the works that fail are either destroyed or sold to the highest bidder. Often, someone who purchases a piece attempts to improve upon it and bring it back, taking all the credit should it pass.
When a work is approved and shown to the king, it is typically a day met with great fanfare. The artist is offered a stipend for passing the critics, and is told to prepare themselves to present to the king the very next day. These preparations often involve a large feast for the artist and their family.
