Curses
Curses are powerful, persistent magic that are often created through a pact with a spirit of great power. Devils are one of the most prevalent curse dealers, but other spirits have also been known to craft retributive curses against evildoers. These curses can take on many forms, from mere lethargy to debilitating effects that can harm entire landscapes.
Alea Mechant. A nobleman who, in a deal with the goddess Delain, redirected the curse of hunger directed at his lands towards himself, thus inflicting himself with vampirism to save his people. He lives in isolation and feeds only on criminals, still praying every day despite the way his flesh burns when he does so.
From the perspective of the Eitur Elves, Orcs are a cursed race, as they have been stripped entirely of their Elven features and made into the ugly beings they are now. Orcs do not see this as a curse, but as a blessing that they are no longer bound to the ways of the Feadan Dubh.
Casting a Curse
Often, the creation of a curse involves an exchange of some sort with the spirit in question. The spirit demands some form of sacrifice in order to muster the magics needed to invoke a long lasting effect, often demanding either life force or some other form of tribute. A moral compulsion may also work in the case of more benevolent spirits. A curse can be applied to anything that the caster or casters hold animosity towards: people, objects, even places can be subject to a curse.Curing Curses
In most cases, a curse will wear off after enough time has passed or the cursed individual has died. Curses can be cured before this event, either through powerful magic or, in extreme cases, slaying the spirit from which the curse is sourced. Some curses have conditions by which the victim can abide by in order to undo the effects as well.Noteworthy Curses
