The Yusuizhe (You-zue-ih-zwe)

The sounds of yells, and flesh hitting flesh resound from a monastery resting at the base of a towering mountain. But a calming peace still lingers over the beautiful marble building. The birds act as if they hear nothing of violence, sitting as if nothing around them could hurt them. Mortal train, molding their bodies, and tempering their wills in service of Quinsho, and those who cannot help themselves. Guardians may not be born here, but they are certainly made here.

Structure

There are three positions within the monasteries of the Yusuizhe: The Shenun, the Ayun, The Dayu, and the Xiyu
The Shenun is the grand leader of the entirety of the Yusuizhes. A man considered the most enlightened of all followers of Quinsho, the Shenun follows in his lords ways, and is nomadic, travelling the world to spread peace, wisdom, and the holy art of his people.
The Ayun is the highest member in each monastery, being the wisest of the Yusuizhe, and grand masters in the martial art taught by Quinsho, "The Clouded Fist". The Ayun give wisdom to all disciples of Quinsho, and make sure corruption doesn't seep into the peace of their teachings. Most Ayun are aged 80 or older, but their mastery over their craft allows them to act as if they haven't aged, even as their skin wrinkles, and their bones deteriorate.
The Dayu are masters of The Clouded fist, teaching the Xiyu the ways of Quinsho, and making sure that they are ready to defend themselves, or if necessary, be guardians of those who need it. As well, Dayu are often sent on missions to protect villages or people who need it.
The Xiyu are the lowest accepted members of a monastery, having passed a trial of will to join as an acknowledged monk. Beginning their training, Xiyu's could maintain this position for a range of five years, to the remainder of their lives. Difficult training of the body, mind, and spirit shape the initiates to become capable guardians. When a Xiyu is ready to take the position of Dayu, they are sent to accompany a Dayu master on a mission to guard the defenseless. These missions can last years, but the lead Dayu may decide at any point that the Xiyu has proven itself, or failed. In either case, they are sent back to the monastery to report of the result with a signed letter from the Dayu they accompanied.

Culture

The Yusuizhe have a simple culture on the outside, but when one looks deeper, they find complex traditions, seemingly nonsensical rules and doctrine, and art forms that most would consider useless.
Their core belief is the shunning of murder, whether that be of ones kin, or even enemies. While this belief is followed strongly by devout worshippers, many understand the need to slay a foe to make the world safer for the defenseless. The Zhen believe that an enemy should be subdued, and allowed to repent for their evil or harmful ways, following the motto "Not all who do evil, know they do evil."
Another strong part of the Zhen culture is their art. Many believe their art to be absurd, and without reason, due to it's highly abstract nature. Zhen will make art on canvas using rainwater, making shapes devoid of any boundary, and without purpose to many. To the artist, their work reflects their release of mortal views on things that simply won't matter, and they express this through a lack of shape, definition, and color. But this doesn't mean they shun traditional art. In fact, the Zhen openly accept art that is gifted to them, and prize them above all else.
The strongest point of the Zhen culture is their views on friendship, and allies. While they believe that mortal ties are meaningless, and do nothing but tie you to mortal plights, they view friendship as the ultimate form of divinity. Making bonds with one another, and growing a comradery is seen as one of the holiest acts one can do, and this is made even holier when a foe is turned friend, and shown the way of the light. This view is so strongly embraced that if a Zhen can show a foe the light, and turn them into a strong companion, they are viewed as an Ayun, even if they did not undergo a mission to obtain this status.

Public Agenda

The Yusuizhe are concerned with two simple things in their mortal existences. To defend the weak, who cannot defend themselves. And to find enlightenment, and become "One with Quinsho."

Assets

The monasteries of the Yusuizhe have little to no earthly assets besides the monasteries themselves, but even then, they consider it the property of Quinsho

Mythology & Lore

Quinsho existed for millennia before the birth of Taru. He provided wisdom, and peace among all other children of Doppelt, and the children of them in turn. Many cosmic conflicts were diverted by his holy wisdom, and love for all of his siblings, forming bonds with a hand full of them that he held above all other things, including himself. He ordained that there was nothing more important that the bonds he shared with his kin.
One day Quinsho was stricken by his fathers hate and love of his own being, and seeing him in such turmoil, both physically and mentally, he sought to help him. Going to Doppelt, in it's constant self-conflict, Quinsho tried to talk his vile side down from his bitter, undeserved hate. In his wrath, the vilest of Doppelts wrath was set forth. He insulted the god, referring to his as a petty parasite, and cursed him with a body that would'nt reflect the youth and strength of all other gods. Quinshos skin withered, and wrinkled, his bones became brittle, and his hair fell out until all that was left was wisps. "You wish to be wise, then be as old and pathetic as you wish" the vile head of Doppelt said, before sending him away.
Before he took himself away, The benevolent head of Doppelt blessed Quinsho with weightlessness. "I cannot reverse what my brother has done, but I can make it bearable to continue my son", the kind head said. Quinsho floated gently back to his kin, wishing he could help his father find peace.
After a long time had passed, and the spawn of doppelt, and their spawn in turn deemed it necessary to make a world of mortal creatures, Quinsho was the third to bless the children of Taru. He blessed them with air to breath, and lungs to fill with it. He ordained that the blessed air should strengthen all creatures that consume it, and perish should they turn away from it. His blessing was soon disrespected by the creation of undead, and unholy creatures who needed neither sleep, nor air to breathe. Slighted as he was, however, he held no hostility towards these beings, as he knew it was not of their choice to be made this way.

Divine Origins

Zhen believe their lord, Quinsho, was birthed of the first mighty breath taken by the great old one, Doppelt. He gifted air, and lungs to mortals so that they might indulge in the pleasure and strength provided by a breath of air.

Cosmological Views

Taru was blessed with an environment mostly devoid of poisons, noxious gas, and air that all creatures could enjoy. Quinsho did all of this, but provided one more great gift upon the home of mortals. He set forth a barrier around the planet that would protect its children from forces of the universe. This took much of his strength however, and thus only keeps out minor threats, destroying them as they threaten the lands.

Tenets of Faith

The tenets of the Yusuizhe are to be respected and followed with the utmost attentiveness, as failure to do so could result in the deaths of people.
1)Do not raise a hand in wrath to any living creature, only in self defense and whenever it is absolutely necessary.
2)Do not knowingly allow death to come to a man at the hands of another man, or by your own hands.
3)Do not allow an animal to kill, or consume the flesh, of your fellow man.
4)Do not retaliate to hostility with hostility when it is unnecessary. Instead, turn the other way, and allow peace to conquer the day.
5)Turn your fellow man to your side, rather than allow them to be your enemy. If such a thing is impossible, then forgive them.
6)Do not allow greed to dissuade your judgement. Materials do nothing but harm, your soul is the only thing you need.

Ethics

Many debate over the first tenet of Yusuism, arguing over what constitutes necessary self defense. Many believe that self defense only applies when one is enacting violence upon you. Some believe that it applies in defense of others. And few believe that self defense is the defense of ones beliefs, attacking those who insult their culture, beliefs, religion, and state. The latter is shunned upon, but some believe that they have a point, although misguided in it's nature.

Worship

All Zhen partake in meditation throughout the majority of their day, and the practice of their martial arts in reverance of their lord. Quinsho ordained in his holy text that he should not be worshipped directly, but instead should be worshipped in the following of his actions. Every bond made, every helpless child protected, and every second of meditation of the meaning of ones true self all give worship to Quinsho, and his peaceful, friendly nature.

Granted Divine Powers

Quinsho blesses magical power onto his monks, allowing them to have an unnatural endurance, a unique view to the world, wisdom beyond most others, and a skill in martial arts unparalleled by any other.
Quinsho is also known to often bless pacifist worshippers in healing magic, giving them the blessing of healing. Clerics of Quinsho abstain from all forms of violence, only doing so when it would prevent the death of another. If a cleric of Quinsho enacts unnecessary violence, they are stripped of their magic until they go on a holy pilgrimage for 3 years,  travelling the lands, healing the sick, and only partaking in foods of the earth.

Political Influence & Intrigue

In areas where the Zhen have a strong pull, martial arts foster, and many people are turned to pacifism in their day to day lives. This is successful in nations where Yusuism is a foundation of the civilization. In cases where the Zhen take root decades after, they serve as healers, and guides on spiritual enlightenment, but struggle to turn folks to a peaceful existence.

Your fist must be strong, but your will must be unbreakable.
