The Arelian Codex

The Arelian Codex is the foundational scripture and governing charter of the Order of Arelian, revered as both a holy text and a manual of discipline. Penned in the aftermath of the Order’s founding by the godly brothers Aurelian and Leohran, the Codex embodies their divine vision: to preserve balance in Tanaria and to protect the mortal realm from the encroachment of darkness. It is said the brothers themselves inscribed its earliest passages in Celestial flame, sealing their ideals into words that would guide the Order for all ages.   The Codex defines the sacred structure of the Order, its neutrality, its code of conduct, and its reliance on the bond between Sahar, gifted magic wielders, and their Guardians, masterful warriors sworn to protect and amplify their partners. It declares that only through unity of strength and spirit can the threads of fate be woven strong enough to resist corruption. Every Sahar and Guardian must swear their oaths upon the Codex before being fully inducted, binding themselves to its principles.   Beyond laws and vows, the Codex also serves as a spiritual guide. It teaches that power, whether magical or martial, must be tempered by responsibility, and that the bond between Sahar and Guardian is a divine reflection of the balance between creation and protection. Scattered among its pages are fragments of prophecy, written in veiled verse, foretelling times when the Order’s strength will be tested by forces no mortal army could withstand.   The original Codex is safeguarded in the Sanctum of Threads, where only the Grand Magisters may touch it directly. Those who have gazed upon it speak of faint whispers in its pages, as if the gods themselves still linger in the words. Every copy, no matter how faithful, is said to lack the living presence of the original, but all carry its weight. To the Order, the Codex is not merely a document; it is the soul of their mission.

Purpose

The Codex was written during an era of chaos when Tanaria was fractured by war, corruption, and uncontrolled magic. Dark forces were rising, and the balance between mortal realms and divine order was collapsing. The godly brothers sought to create an organization that could stand above political alliances, operating with unwavering neutrality to protect the world. To prevent future corruption or misinterpretation of their ideals, they inscribed their vision and laws into a single document, one that would carry divine authority and bind future generations to their cause.

Historical Details

Background

The Codex was born out of a time when faith in divine order was faltering. The Seraphelle were already in decline after the death of Seraphis, mortals quarreled under warring kingdoms, and many believed the gods had withdrawn their favor. Aurelian and Leohara, the godly brothers, sought to rekindle a sense of unity and purpose. Culturally, the document reflects a blend of divine ideals and mortal struggle—it bridges the gap between celestial authority and human need. Its language mixes poetic prophecy with pragmatic instruction, mirroring the dual nature of the Order itself: spiritual yet grounded in action.

History

The Codex emerged during the late Calamity Era, a period defined by rampant magical corruption, planar breaches, and the rise of dark powers. Kingdoms were collapsing or isolating themselves, and arcane misuse was widespread. The brothers wrote the Codex to create a permanent organization capable of transcending these divisions. Its writing marks a turning point in Tanarian history: the transition from divine intervention as an immediate force to divine ideals preserved through mortal institutions. The document is thus not only the foundation of the Order but also a relic of the last age where gods directly shaped mortal law.
