Callamar Flower

The Callamar Flower is used and cultivated by the Seraphelle for spiritual purposes during specific rituals and festivals. Like the Serapha Leaf, it grows high in mountainous regions, though always in small crevasses to stay out of the wind and protect its tender petals. It has delicate, pale-blue petals that grow radially. The flower stays closed during the day and only blooms in the moonlight. The flower in the moonlight is pearlescent and glows lightly, making it much easier to harvest under the full moon.   Though the Serapha Leaf is exported to other groups, the Callamar flower is kept a secret and used only by Seraphelle. When used, the petals are harvested and left to dry in moonlight, then are crushed with a mortar and pestle, creating a powder that is thrown into a fire, creating a smoke that is then inhaled. The smoke produces visions in those who inhale it, that the Seraphelle believe are divine revelations from Callen herself. These rituals are always done under the full moon of Callista, though also under the conjunction of both full moons.

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

The Callamar Flower thrives in high-altitude, mountainous environments where the air is thin, and temperatures fluctuate significantly between day and night. It is typically found growing in small, sheltered crevasses that offer natural protection from harsh winds and provide a stable microclimate with moderate moisture retention. The rocky terrain helps anchor its roots firmly, ensuring the plant remains secure despite the unpredictable weather.   The ideal environment for the Callamar Flower is a cool, shaded mountainside where it can remain protected from direct sunlight during the day. The flower is particularly suited to areas with strong moonlight exposure, as its unique biology is adapted to bloom and display its pearlescent glow only at night. Regions with a clear view of the moon are preferred, as the flower's photoreceptors are sensitive to moonlight, which triggers the opening of its petals and activates its luminescence.   The Callamar Flower plays an essential role in its habitat, supporting nocturnal pollinators such as moths and certain species of mountain-dwelling, glow-sensitive insects. The flower's gentle glow acts as a beacon, attracting these creatures, which in turn assist in its pollination cycle. This mutualistic relationship helps maintain the local ecosystem, ensuring that pollinators have a reliable food source while enabling the flower to reproduce effectively. The flower's roots help stabilize soil in rocky regions, preventing minor erosion and supporting other alpine plant life that shares the environment. Its presence is also a signal to local fauna that water sources may be nearby, as it often grows in crevasses where moisture from rain or snow collects.
