Districts
The Slaughter Docks
The city is known for its so-called "slaughter docks". Several fleets of hunting ships prowl the northern seas for giant sea monsters and similar game, and the whole city springs to life when they return successfully. Great cranes and lifts atop the steep cliffs on the northern side of the city hoist the sea monsters up against the cliff, where they are efficiently butchered harvested for valuable materials. The offal and much of the blood of these great beasts fall down into the deep waters by the cliffs, where it feeds a population of carnivorous fish called "biters". Some of the blood is gathered however, and fermented to produce the cities signature drink Bloche. The city depends heavily on both the food and commerce these sea monsters provide.Hightown
Hightown is the area up on the cliffs of Quenton. It contains the keep, with large stone walls holding the castle, garrison, armory, wizards tower, and few other buildings critical to the cities defense. The stench of dead sea monster is slightly more tolerable up this high as well, so some of the nobles and richer folk make their homes here beyond the keep. The city's military might is also generally kept in this area, and along with it their blacksmiths, armorers, and other necessary support industry. The Church of Auril
The church of Auril makes its home here. It lies in the northernmost corner of the city by tradition, where the outer wall and the keep wall are closest. The Herbalist's Guild
The Herbalist's Guild House is here, and it serves as the headquarters for the guild regionally - as a lot of herbs come in from the forest. The doorman is Toby, and the head Artificer is Jacoby. The Armory
This imposing structure headquarters the city guard, and serves as a stockpile for weapons and armor. The City guard is headed by the stoic, if simple, Brad NailsThe Slopes
The slopes are the very steep hillside where the shoreline pulls up sharply about 500 feet to the sharp cliffs on the northern side. No permanent structures are built here, but the open area is used sometimes to host traveling merchants or large celebrations.Lowtown
Lowtown is the merchant and craftsman area of the city, where much of the land trade to the people of the High Forest is done from, and where many of the city's middle class merchants and artisans reside. The Church of Helm
This area is home to the Church of Helm, which also serves as the shrinehome of the city. It lies just on the edge of the slopes, partially dug into the hillside. The High Priest Fenric runs the church, he is elderly, but wire tough. The Fox and The Thrush Tavern
With it's grumbly old barkeep, this tavern is a favorite of local hunters and woodsmenThe Monster's Maw Hunter's Guild
The Local Hunter's Guildhouse features the skull of a massive sea monster hung from the ceiling inside. It serves as a macabre chandelier with many candles stuck to the teeth.Portside
The bustling heart of commerce in the city, the cleverly named portside is attached to the city's Port. Without any major roadways or rivers from the city, the port is it's lifeline to the rest of the world. Portside is where the sailors, haulers, and merchants ply their trade; bringing goods on and off of ships, and in and out of warehouses. This is a working quarter, with few residents. The Salty Quill
The Salty Quill is a local cartography shop run by Jacobsen, the salty old map maker. The Slums
The slums are where most of the sailors, fisherman, haulers, and other manual laborers make their homes in Quenton. It's dense with dive bars and whorehouses, and the town guard rarely bothers in here. The Tents
For those sad folk that can't even afford the slums, the tents lie outside the city wall. Some sailors only on land for a few days will save coin on an inn by laying out in the tents - but not if they can afford it. Occupied primarily by "seasonal" workers called whenever hunting fleet returns with a sea monster to butcher, this place is also home to drunkards, drug addicts, and other folks unable to hold down stable employment. The sea monsters aren't the only reason the slaughter docks stink so bad.
