Kerrhylon

The once great city fell during the ancient magic used to turn the once great lands of the Dragonborn lands to a barren desert. The city fared better than most, able to stave off the sands for a time, but eventually it sank into the sands. Over the years dozens of attempts have been made to turn it once again into a city, but the sands always take it over eventually. That is, until now. At the moment Kerrhylon is but a small piece of what it once was, but thanks to the building of new white granite walls that are buried deep into the earth, the sands that blow into the desert no longer prevent progress. The ancient living district has been completely excavated and the plaster and sandstone walls of the buildings are mostly intact with some needing new roofs or supports. New construction also replaces any buildings along the wide streets of the ancient city that crumpled. It is a constant struggle to keep the excavated city above the sands, but the clan-less dragonborn that call Kerrhylon their home are a hardy and hardworking people.   Since the town is carved out of a once great city the streets are wide and well paved, they have a simple sewer system that isn’t big enough to travel through, but a natural well under the district keeps water and waste flowing easily through the city. When entering the town, everything slopes downward as the town is sunken into the softer earth. The lowest part of the town is a good 15ft lower in elevation than the entrance to the town, and it is rare for anything including homes to be perfectly level. Because the town is built out of a living district of an ancient city, the buildings are all styled as simple dwellings, or multi-floored apartments. As needed, larger buildings such as inns, shops, smithies, food stores, and restaurants are all made of many smaller buildings combined into one large space, meaning large buildings have supports and beams throughout the open areas.   The town is currently run by the followers of Torrin Ghallixern; a group of paladins in training that follow the more peaceful aspect of Bahamut. They style themselves the Order of the Scaled Shield, though Torrin himself is known for his humility. Their excavation effors are aimed at the famed palace supposedly at the center of the city.   The town sports a traditional dragonborn bath house, with large pits of fine sand to clean and polish the scales. Paradise cafe is a small place that serves the local delicacies - a tea brewed from cactus flowers and a sweet, light berry concoction served cool. Collin's Cartographer is a map shop run by an Azer named Collin.
