What'll It Cost Me

Remember! As the GM, I will care 1000% more if you Storium up / play by post up / narrate the ‘how’ you are accomplishing something with a skill over “does your device have stats”.   Yet, True Believer! THIS ... is the right time to say do not forget about the "Aha BUT!" rule!   With this Aha BUT rule...heroes like YOU can -- when faced with the dastardly designs of a despicable foe -- raise one finger into the air and declare "AHA BUT!" to those devious machinations... then ask the GM politely how many Hero Points it would cost to change the environment so that an item or effect is nearby?   Once you... yes, YOU, True Believer ... have paid those Hero Points... that glimmering narrative device or item will be suddenly at your delicate, justice-caressing fingertips to use instead of you rummaging through your justice-laden pockets for yet one more mundane, ordinary device!   Know that deep in your beating heroic heart of justice, this item that may, or may not, come with its own MYSTERIOUS, MARVELOUS, dare I even say it, True Believer?   UNCANNY!!   .... POWERS, STATS, or SKILLS to aid you, sir... yes, YOU ... in applying... TWO FISTED JUSTICE to the MAD, BURNING EYES of EVIL!   What does this require, True Believer? All you need is to be heroic of heart, and a meager expenditure of Hero Points. One that you SAVE and SAVE OFTEN by being frugal about burning them on gadgets. But instead... you, sir! Yes, YOU... look at the very WORLD AS YOUR GADGET! (disclaimer: per HP cost as determined by the GM at that time)   EXCELSIOR!

This is a mostly-straight adaptation of an optional rule in the original DC Heroes (MEGS) books.

The GM may allow the Players to spend Hero Points to alter the actual playing environment to suit their fancy, in essence combining the GURPS “scrounge” skill with Drama Dice from Seventh Sea. All such alterations must make logical sense — a bottle of ammonia isn’t going to be found in a Latverian jail cell — and this rule relies heavily on The Cool Rule. If the idea makes sense (and will lead to Coolness in the current scene), the GM will charge a one-time Hero Point cost based on the potential impact on the overall plot.

Beats the hell out of buying an Omni-Gadget, doesn’t it?

Lo: is this a genre-violating rules violation I do see before me?   One without any accompanying bribe to The Mean GM?   Beloved player, Omni-Power is on the Restricted Powers list for a reason, and that reason is my personal animus.   (I am the Mean GM.)   You might get The Nice GM aboard, however, I find your lack of bribery disturbing.   :checks notes:   Oh! A sticker! All right, you DID present a bribe. Doom postponed!

(You still cannot have a Bag of Holding. Wrong genre setting.)

I really like the tone of this article, haha. And the speech bubble coming off your user.

Thank you! :) The Sparkly One did a lot of styling work to let me use Comic Book style "speech bubbles" so I'm delighted to put his rule explanation in one.
