Unnuak
The moon Nemur has at its core a conduit to the elemental plane of fire. The elemental energy leaking through gets ejected by the moon's many volcanoes. This energy bonds with the radiation of Marduk to form a radioactive torus around the gas giant which mutates living matter. These mutations have altered the inhabitants of Nemur, transforming them from their original species into something new. These mutants call themselves unnuak, or people of fire, but are also known as udugnuak or "fire demons" due to their history of violence.
The unnuak began in the time of the Sumerian Star Empire when a large transport ship carrying prisoners crashed on Nemur. The prisoners were assumed to have perished in the crash or by the extreme radiation. Against all odds, the radiation mutated them into a form that could survive on Nemur. When a salvager ship arrived, the unnuak captured them and commandeered the vessel. This was the start of their slow expansion into a civilization. Over time, more and more beings from across An-Shar came to Nemur (voluntarily or involuntarily).
Despite their large number of mutations, Unnuak can and do reproduce. As a result, they are considered a distinct species subdivided into various subspecies based on the individual's ancestry. These subspecies include azers, efreet, and fey'ri.
Unnuak are immune to radiation and heat. They still need to breathe oxygen (or whatever their ancestral species used for respiration), but a simple respirator is enough for them to survive on the surface of Nemur. They are vulnerable to cold. Unnuak who grow up on Nemur generally speak the Nemuri dialect of Sumerian.
