Personal history
Halia was born in Tycheron, in the infamous Labyrinth District. Her parents, unable to support their children, encouraged them to strike out on their own. Of the parent's 5 children, only Halia proved to have the necessary hunger and wit to rise above her low-birth. However, her success came at the cost of her moral character. She would bribe, cheat, and steal until she had everything she needed for her rise to power. Eventually, she found herself in an prominent role in the Kardia Petra, the most preminent miners guild in Ashguard. She would come to be assigned to manage the Kardia Petra branch in Phandalin, a town known for their mining operations. This would be a difficult achievement for anyone, but especially for a Human in such a Dwarf-dominated field as the mining trade. She accepted the role, and, like all her other positions she would find herself in across her career, dedicated to creating the best results possible. It was as manager of the Phandalin Kardia Petra, that she met the two people that would forever change the course of her life: Boblin the Goblin, and Chad Embergaze; particularly that of Chad. She made a deal with the duo that, if they could get her elected Lawgrave of Phandalin, she would give them the Ruby Dragon Statue (a key to unlocking the lost Wave Echo Cave) she had come to have in her possession. The pair agreed, and they succeeded; running the incompetent Lawgrave Wester out of town, and getting the town to support Halia's bid for the position. She was now on track to gaining the prestige necessary for her ultimate goal: Becoming Regent of Tycheron.
After Chad eventually returned from his adventures slaying dragons, determined to amass political power, he courted and eventually married Halia; herself sure of the clout marrying one of the, then, Seekers of the Golden Grain would grant her.
Once on track, however, to become one of the most preminent politicians in Ashguard, Halia Thornton-Embergaze now lives in self-imposed exile. After her husband, Chad Embergaze, established the Assassins Guild and overthrew the government of Tycheron, all her ambitions of one day becoming Regent went up in flames. She now lives somewhere in the Asmark region, alone; not regretting partnering up with Chad, but regretting not cutting ties with him before it cost her her career.
