Personal history
Growing up in a small, watermill town of Vannland where magic was scarce, young Bradley was held accountable for a crime he did not commit due to the townsfolk fearing his magical capabilities. After using his magical music to convince the guards to let him leave his prison, Bradley returned to the town Lawgrave who wrongfully imprisoned him, a man named Solomon, and murdered him. Chad Embergaze was born.
Convincing all he would come across of his virtues, he began his long career as a serial killer at only age 21. Eventually Chad had made his way to Ashguard, and met Boblin the Goblin. The pair would learn of the legend of Wave Echo Cave and the ancient Ma'anrak artifact known as the Spellforge. Their questing to find Wave Echo Cave and the power inside led them to ally with the local Goblin tribe, and secured the help of their leader, Klarg. While searching for one of the lost keys to Wave Echo Cave, Chad and Boblin came into contact with the Black Hand military. Hoping to get into their good graces, the pair convinced a nearby green dragon known as Ozzyrandion to join the Black Hand. Ozzyrandion then took Chad and Boblin to the western end of the Elsir Vale, where the three then joined the Black Hand (albeit begrudgingly). After their first mission, Chad got into a fight with his superior in the Hand and was chased off into the wilderness. Pursued by the Hand's Hell Hounds, followed behind by Boblin, Chad lept into a nearby river, and was presumed dead.
Some time later, Chad washed up on the banks of the Tiri Kitor tribe of Wild Elves. Their leader, Thespian, helped raise Chad back to health. Chad would work with the Wild Elves at this time, until the time came where he had enough means to return back to Ashguard. Chad's unbeatable charisma and persuasion helped him quickly into the good graces of one Miron Broadborn. After working with Miron and the Broadborn family, making no small amount of lucrative business deals on their behalf, Chad was asked to accompany Miron to the First Council of the Torendal Valley. It was here that Chad would meet the Seekers of the Golden Grain. After their ally Tormund had been killed in their battle against Tordenkrone, Chad would replace Tormund at the behest of Miron. Chad then accompanied the Seekers in slaying 4 Draconic Governors, as well as then traveling to Avernus and helping to slay Tiamat. Chad, like the other Seekers, claims it was in fact he that got the last strike against Tiamat.
Returning to Tycheron in Ashguard a celebrated hero, Chad quickly resumed his serial killers antics, totally unsuspected of wrong doing. In the year 9 YH, Chad was named Speaker of the Regent, by Yorick Voldren. However, Gerwas Olbrich having always suspected Chad of his double nature, advised not only Yorick, but the Seekers to distance themselves from Chad. The Seekers listened, but Yorick did not; a decision which would come to be his greatest political regret.
Chad's serial killings continued, and only increased in frequency as the years carried on. But in 24 YH, Chad decided that he had had enough of never being caught. According to Gerwas, who Chad would kidnap and begin torturing that year, Chad wanted to have the thrills that accompanied a villain known far and wide. So his killings became less and less hidden, and more and more extravagant in their morbidity. Right at this same time, with the help of Leo Palevalor, Regent Voldren would establish the Thieves Guild. Chad knew he now had heroes worthy of his villainy.
Chad would begin placing himself in conflict with the interests of the guild, and would begin organizing his "Assassins Guild". *For a more established account of these events, please read the forthcoming Truth and Lies: Disputing the Claims of a 'Thieves Guild' in Tycheron.* It would be on the 2nd of Ylir, 25 YH, Chad would unveil his Assassins Guild to the city, and depose Regent Voldren from power, pronouncing himself the first King of Ashguard. That night of the 2nd, the Thieves Guild would sneak into the Ebon Palace and confront the Speaker. After conversing for a moment, Chad would kill Senua, the daughter of Regent Voldren with his Power Word Kill. (Who would be brought back to life by member of the guild, Therai.) Chad and his forces battled the Thieves Guild, and was slain, likely satisfied with the mass hysteria he had wrought.
The Thieves Guild then went on to stop the Palevalor Cult of Moloch, where as they were rushing from the collapsing temple, Chad Embergaze, somehow alive, arrived just to then slay Klarg (now a member of the guild). Chad then took off in the confusion, and, to the time of the penning of this history, is unaccounted for. This author worries for the souls that should be unfortunate enough to come across the path of this former hero.
