The Grand Cathedral

The Grand Cathedral was constructed as the first place of worship for the Radiant Church, and has since grown to become the symbol of the faith.

While the Grand Cathedral started as a moderately sized temple, the growing number of faithful and increasing influence of the faith saw many alterations to its structure, including a larger congregation area, clergy quarters, and rooms for storing relics and tomes.

The Grand Cathedral is a large building constructed from white stone on the outside, with a large set of wooden doors at the entrance, a sloped roof, stone steps leading up to the entrance, a large stained glass window above the entrance depicting the five Saints, and five large spires (one above the entrance, and four shorter ones at each corner).

Congregation area

Taking up the front half of the cathedral, this is where the faithful gather for services. This section contains many pews for seating, a pulpit for the speaking priest/ess, and an alter along the back wall.

Clergy area

Taking up the rear half of the cathedral, this section is reserved for the residing clergy of the Church. It's here where most of the rituals of the clergy, including initiations, take place, and many of the other chambers of the cathedral connect here.
 

Clergy Quarters

Located to the left of the Clergy area, this is where the resident clergy of the cathedral, including the High Radiant, reside.
 

Cathedral Library

Located to the right of the Clergy area, this is where the cathedral keeps tomes on a variety of subjects tied to the Radiant Church.

Reliquary

  Connected to the Library, this is where many of the most significant relics of the faith are stored. Naturally, this room is restricted to only the highest ranking members of the clergy.

Tomb of Aione

  Said to be located beneath the cathedral, this is said to be the final resting place of Saint Aione, the founding figure of the Radiant Church. It's said that only the High Radiant is able to access this area.

The cathedral is of durable construction, and the Clerics and Temple Guard stationed there are ready to defend it at a moments notice. Such actions have never been necessary, however, as it's said that the spirit of Saint Aione (who was laid to rest on the site of the cathedral) shields the cathedral against all harm, including natural disasters.

The Grand Cathedral sees a considerable amount of activity, both from the inhabitants of the nearby city of Alemar and pilgrims from abroad.
