The Brotherhood of the Silver Hand
Among the many charitable organisations associated with the Radiant Church, the Brotherhood of the Silver Hand is perhaps one of the most recognised and respected of them. Formed around the principles of generosity and charity espoused by Saint Luca (a former Navalonian merchant prince now known as the Giving Saint), the Brotherhood focuses their efforts on providing for the less fortunate members of society, both by tending to the individuals themselves, and trying to improve conditions in their communities. Thanks to their constant efforts to improve the lives of those in their care, the Silver Hands have become a welcomed sight among the destitute and disenfranchised of Imera.
Structure
The organisation of the Silver Hands is largely informal and decentralised, with each brach consisting of an Elder and their subordinates, who largely tend to their own local matters. The Cartadoba branch, however, is still considered to be the unofficial authority of the organisation, due to it being the birthplace of the order as a whole.
Culture
The Silver Hands fosters a culture of generosityand empathy among its members, encouraging them to do everything in their power to improve the lives of those under their care. Due to their close association with the Radiant Church, the Silver Hands also hold themselves to the tenets espoused by the Church.
Public Agenda
The Silver Hands are dedicated to caring for the downtrodden and neglected members of society (usually through monetary support, food, and housing), improving conditions in their local community as a whole, and spreading the word of the Radiant Church.
Assets
Besides the support of the Radiant Church, the Silver Hands have also established connections with numerous merchants and officials in their community, in order to better help facilitate their mission of tending to those most in need.
History
The Silver Hands trace their origins back to Saint Luca, one of the five Saints venerated by the Radiant Church. Originally the heir to a well-off merchant family, Luca was moved by the plight of the impoverished members of his hometown (which would eventually grow to become the city of Cartadoba), and would dedicate his personal wealth to tending to their needs as best as he could. Over the years, his ceaseless acts of generosity would draw the attention of a number of likeminded individuals, who began pooling their own wealth and resources with his to better accomplish their task. Following Lucas passing, his associattes would continue his work, eventually branching out into neighbouring communities within Navalonia before reaching the mainland, forming the early chapter houses of the Brotherhood of the Silver Hand.
