Border Stones
Few places are as closely tied to the bizarre world of the Fae Realm than the Elderwood, with the boundries between the Fae and Mortal Realms being near nonexistent within its inner-most depths. It was these circumstances that would lead to the creation of the Border Stones, whose enchantments would not only contain the spread of the transformative effects of the magic of such a chaotic realm, but also prevent further rifts leading to it from appearing. While life within the Elderwood has become much safer since the construction of these stones, those who call the forest their home (including the Wood Elves and Cernai), as well as those passing through, know never to step beyond them, lest they expose themselves to the dangers held within the Fae-altered lands beyond.
Utility
Border Stones were created to ward off and contain rifts leading to the Fae Realm, as well as the magic that leaks through them. This has also resulted in them being used by travellers as markers for avoiding areas under the influence of the Fae.
Manufacturing
In order to create a new Border Stone, a large stone is selected by a high ranking Druid within the Verdant Boundry, who will then begin the process of carving the various runes tied to their enchantments into them.
Social Impact
Border Stones are a vital part of life in the Elderwood, having made travel through the deeper parts of this massive forest much safer.
Access & Availability
Border Stones are most commonly seen throughout the Elderwood, and are rarely seen beyond the outer reaches of the forest.
Complexity
The Border Stones draw their power from a complex series of enchantments working in concert with one another, with only the shamans of the Verdant Boundry knowing how to create and maintain them.
Discovery
While the exact details behind the discovery of the Border Stones remain unknown, the Cernai believe that the secrets behind their construction were imparted to them by their creator, Virae, and was influenced by the magics she used herself to keep the Fae and Mortal Realms seperate.
