Ayhuitl Coast

Located along the eastern coast of Xaexl, the large jungle covering much of southern Vraelia, the Ayhuitl Coast is one of the most environmentally dynamic locations in the region. Best known for heavy rainfall and drastically changing tides, the communities who've settled here, including stilt and floating villages, have long learned to adapt to the torrential rainfall, choppy waters, and rising tides of the storm season, even flourishing in spite of their environment.

Geography

The lands that comprise the Ayhuitl Coast are covered in tropical foliage, including tall trees and dense undergrowth, and extends into a shallow sea that becomes deeper during strong storms and high tide. To the north, east, and south lie the jungles of Xaexl, and a river runs westward further into the jungle.

Ecosystem Cycles

During the monsoon season, when the tide rises, the native fauna migrate into the canopy of the surrounding trees.

Localized Phenomena

While the coastal waters are generally shallow, they increase in depth during the monsoon season, reducing the coastline significantly. While the inhabitants of the region have built their communities to withstand such changes (such as standing higher off the ground or outright floating on the water), some aspects of their daily routines do change during this time, including the wearing of more rain-proof clothing to an increase in ship travel over foot traffic along the coastline.

Climate

The Ayhuitl Coast has a tropical climate, with frequent rainstorms. During the warmer season, these storms can become much fiercer, with strong winds, heavy rainfall, and turbulent waters.

Fauna & Flora

The Ayhuitl Coast has a number of tropical plants, including mangroves extending some distance past the coastline. A number of tropical, shallow water fish can also be found within the waters along the coastline, and a several coastal birds nest and hunt here.

Natural Resources

Food is mostly harvested from the local fish and fruits native to the area, and wood and plant matter are harvested from the surrounding flora for various uses. During the rainy season, it's not uncommon for residents in the area to collectrainwaterfor personal use.

Tourism

This area is a common entry point for any Ixlotl travelling to the mainland for whatever reason.
