01 Bonsk Standing Stones
Within the small hamlet of Bonsk there is a circular area that is nearly 40 yards (120') in diameter. There are 8 stones about 10 to 15 feet high around the perimeter, roughly at the cardinal points of the compass. There is a large 25' high stone set in the center. The stones are made of a dark material, not native to the Bonsk area. They very weathered, and covered in dirt, grime and plants.
No one knows the history of the stones, texts indicate it was here before Bonsk castle was built, but there is no indication of who built it. It may have factored into the decision to put a castle at this location.
Currently the area is used for public gatherings and festivals. It is also the site of the open air market. Public sentencing for criminals (on those rare occasions) are held here.
