Wings of the Departed

What caused the creation of this subculture?

The valturo in their ancestral home, the Eyrie, followed a shamanic belief system that was very close to the nature around them. Part of this belief system was that the winds are the souls of the departed still flying all over their home. Sometimes being gentle, occasionally angry, like every valturo can be from time to time. When the Divine Scavenger led the valturo to their new home in the Cutter, many things had changed. One of these changes was their belief system, which shifted from a shamanic, more nature-oriented faith to a full-blown religion, with a church that prioritized the Divine Scavenger above all else. However, there was a small group of valturo who, although they respected the Divine Scavenger, also wanted to retain their previous faith. And with this group, the Wings of the Departed have been born.

What is the creed of the Wings of the Departed?

It is a mix of the previous shamanic traditions and the new Divine Scavenger faith. As their bodies are sacrificed to the Divine Scavenger, their souls are and will be part of the winds above the Cutter. The members of the Wings don’t feel that they betray one or the other side of their faith. In the shamanic traditions, there wasn’t a place for the body, which is now given to the Divine Scavenger. And while the valturo’s current religion concentrates on the bodies of the dead, it is not taking care of their souls. For the Wings of the Departed, their faith completes them, because it takes care of both their bodies and souls when they die.

Where can you find the members?

They don’t have a substantial following or big groups in the various nests, but you can find several members where the winds and storms are more active. It is not proven, but based on rumors, the first nest with this culture was the Stormperch. When its inhabitants left it and moved to other nests, that is when this belief began to spread.
They are not renouncing the Divine Scavenger. That is all that matters
