The Unfolding Nest
What is the unfolding nest?
It is a living labyrinth of large bushes that are planted, cut out, replanted, and expanded as the understanding of the Divine Scavenger and the valturo's place in Tacillia grows. It symbolizes both the physical path the valturo took when they flew from their ancestral home, the Eyrie, to their new home in the Cutter, and their spiritual progress from shamanic, nature-bound traditions to the new beliefs and traditions that the Divine Scavenger brought to them.
The door to the labyrinth is on the eastern side. It symbolizes the arrival of the valturo to the Cutter from the east and their first steps in their new home.
Where can the unfolding nest be found?
It is at the feet of the Cutter, close to the sea. The soil of the Cutter is not fertile enough to support a living and changing labyrinth. However, the moisture from the sea and all the erosion from the Cutter deposited on the terrace where the unfolding nest is located help make the bushes lusher.
What is the idea behind the unfolding nest?
It is deeply connected to the faith of the valturo, and how their lives are constantly changing since they arrived at their new home in the Cutter. By creating a living labyrinth of massive, sculpted bushes, they are conveying the idea that faith is alive, not carved in stone; understanding is organic; the path to truth is winding, never direct; and as new revelations emerge, the landscape of belief evolves. In the unfolding nest, literally.
