Skyless
Who are they?
The skyless are those valturo who didn’t follow the Divine Scavenger from their ancestral home, the Eyrie, to the Cutter during their great migration. These valturo either didn’t believe the promises of the Divine Scavenger, and didn’t leave the Eyrie at all, or couldn’t take the long flight and stopped by at various places which they thought would be a good place for their new home.
Where do they live now?
Because a considerable part of the great migration was taken through the Gibora continent, most of the skyless live there in small families scattered all over the continent. Many of these families live close to the kobold clans and have become skilled craftsmen and artisans, honing their skills through the knowledge they have gained from the kobolds.
After the Muaclun continent was discovered, a few of the families tried their luck on the new continent. They now live on the Stoneguard Mountain at the northern end of Muaclun. These colonies tend to keep to themselves, maintaining their distance from one another and from the ogres that inhabit this area.
As there were valturo who didn’t leave their ancestral home, and until there is no proof that nobody lives in the Eyrie anymore, the valturo treat the mountain as one of the skyless nests.
Even those who are born in the Cutter but leave it to live elsewhere are called skyless by the valturo.
What does this name mean?
Nobody knows who dubbed the valturo that lives outside the Cutter by this name, but it originated from someone living within the Cutter. It is used to make those not living in the Cutter feel inferior. Partially because it was the Divine Scavenger who led them here, and anybody living somewhere else can’t be as blessed as they are. But partially to make themselves feel better, even in those cases, if a skyless does something extraordinary.
However, this tactic starts to backfire, and more and more valturo, who lives outside the Cutter, starts to call themselves proudly by this name.
I don’t understand the animosity against the skyless. I have many fine apprentices among them
