High Talon

The High Talon is the leader and high commander of the Skyward Guard. Together with the commanders of the other Guards, he is a member of the governing body of the valturo army. This governing body is called the Talonroost. Both the title and the Guard were created recently, so the influence of the High Talon is not significant at the moment, but as the Skyward Guard’s prestige is increasing, that influence will grow with it.

The practical choice is to appoint the High Talon among the members of the Skyward Guard, preferably a Flightcaller, because they have the most knowledge of this specialized aerial combat type. However, because all the valturo can fly and most of their strategies and tactics are centered around fighting from the air, other officers of other Guards can also become a High Talon. The other members of the Talonroost always select the next High Talon. It is doubtful that, because of political or ecclesiastical pressure, someone inadequate to the task will be nominated as a Talon. The valturo learned early in their existence that the best hunter must be the leader of the hunting party to take home enough food.

First and foremost, together with the other Talons, to lead the valturo army – however small it is – to protect the valturo, their home, and if it is requested, help their allies. Currently, the valturo has one ally, the Calamor Empire.

The High Talon is also responsible for leading the Skyward Guard and, together with the Flightkeepers, creates their strategy and tactics.

The High Talon is the one who trains the Flightkeepers. Currently, some calamor advisors help with this task, but the valturo is starting to figure out what the best strategies and tactics for them are, and the Talonroost hopes that soon they won’t need the calamor advisors anymore.
