The Average Man

James Alan Smith (a.k.a. Median, Prosaic)

  • Classification: Supe
  • Alignment: Villain
  • Origin: Unknowingly given a recreation of the Nola Gene, he was radicalized into becoming the Average Man.

Physical Description

Special abilities

  • Law of Averages - His power averages out his opponents with his own strength. When going against someone who can lift 10 tens, they'll both be able to only lift 5. Someone running at 1000 mph will limit them both to 500. His power may be limitless in this capacity. It even applied to intelligence as well, he purposely kept his body weak and mind dull to use this against his opponents. Being able to average out an entire group against himself, their combined strength being averaged out to him as a whole.

Personal history

James is the same guy as most. The same guy you see on every street walking his golden retriever, the same guy in the barbershop asking for the usual. The same guy working behind the counter in every store, blending perfectly with the backdrop. He is the pinnacle of mediocrity, and he couldn't have been more proud. James saw himself as the perfect representation of America. Not particularly exciting nor a complete bore, just simply unremarkable. A simple median, the average man.

It's because of his pride, his view on what a normal human being is. That drove to him anger towards powered people. They weren't the norm, they were aberrations to the status quo. They broke the regular aspirations of whats normally human, common ideas that bound people together of what it meant to be great were thrust beneath the infallible boots of these supermen. What hope could there be with them around? He felt uncommon for the first time in life, low, and he met others who felt the same way.

He began participating in groups who also held a strong distaste for supes. More like therapy for people with imagined sleights. They grew angrier every week, knowing they had no affect on those they hated most. James fit right in, others who felt the same but couldn't attend sent baked goods and cakes. Over time members stopped coming, until James walked in one day being the only other person in the group besides the group leader. Who told him he was meant for better things, and that he'd outgrown that organization. He offered him a chance to actually get back at the supes for stealing the minds of the people.

James began fighting back only as he could, as the Average Man.

Employment

  • Cashier
  • James also takes work from the U.S. government if he gets the call.

Morality & Philosophy

James believes average people are the heart and soul of the nation. With truly great and terrible people being outliers more than anything. So supes with their fantastical powers, raising the bar for the every day human, are a personal affront to him.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

James seems hell bent on erasing the superiority, or the thought of superiority of supers.
