Aria was a California native working as a lifeguard during the summer. During one month some of the most intense waves to ever hit the coast were battering the beaches. The lifeguards were told to keep people out of the water at that point, but some people are too stupid for reason. So one shift someone snuck out, the only reason they noticed is because they left their things on the beach. After swimming out to get them Aria tried her hardest to get back, but the waves were determined to drag them under. She managed to push the idiot on the board before she lost her strength and was dragged under.
She woke up a few hours later, at the bottom of the sea floor miles away from the beach. Still breathing, under water with a fresh new set of gills on her. She was surrounded by people wondering how she was even alive. There she met the Atlanteans, who welcomed her into their world. They were as fascinated about her survival as she was about their existence. After a few weeks she left as a honorary Atlantean, with a promise to protect them from misguided outsiders. After she got back to shore with her survival being deemed a miracle. She joined the navy and became a boot, with full intention on using her powers to help people and keep Atlantis's location off of people's radar.
