Session 7 Report

General Summary

The party reunites in the Kraken's Reach tavern. The members recount some of their experiences in the woods, going to the Water Monestary and following the footsteps leading east into a clearing that had the remnants of a planar rift. Giorgi talks about some of his adventures such as well, including recovering a book for Miku Watomi, the librarian. He also discusses what he learned about Andrys Karne , about how he was the one that magically sealed the Karne treasury and not even the other members of the family could open it once he had disappeared. The party discussed the possibility of having to recover the body of Andrys in the Shadewood in order to open the Karne Treasury.   Muraad asked Marcus Wright about the figures they had met in the woods, that some party members still thought might be doppelgangers of some sort. Marcus didn't recall meeting any figures like that.   The party decided to ask the guards at the south gate of the town to find out if the party they met in the woods had come through. They guards reported that no one had come through the gate besides the party and the acolyte Elisse. The party inquired if there were any other newcomers, and the guard reported that an adventuring party who called themselves the The Wayfinders of Danum had arrived via ship a couple of days ago.   The party decided to go to the church and find out more information from the local cleric. Sister Reia expressed her gratitude about the party recovering Elisse and returning her safely. She reports that Vera her spouse was still missing. The party tells about the experience at the water monetary and following the footsteps that led to the clearing with remnants of the planar rift. She wasn't overly familiar with such things but suggested that Miku Watomi might know more.   The party goes to the Redcliffe Library and talk to Miku Watomi and tell about what they discovered. She does some quick research and tells what she knows. She tells the party that the Outer Planes usually require some kind of "key" or spell to access those areas, but the Inner Planes that are closer to the Material Plane, often have rifts that one can stumble upon, either in the right location or under the right circumstances. She explains that the Inner Planes include the Elemental Planes, as well as Planes that are echos of the Material Plane, such as the Feywild and the Plane of Shadow. Based upon the description, it seems likely that the rift led to the Plane of Shadow, commonly known as the Shadowfell. She states that such rifts usually occur in places of extreme darkness like caverns and deep caves, but can be triggered under the most of dark circumstances. The party also inquires about the trident that was found in the monastery, and she didn't know much about it.   The party decides to go out of town and let Vasari inspect the trident. Upon touching the trident nothing overt seems to occur. After spending an hour to attune to it, Vasari discovers it is a +1 Trident, that allows the character to breathe underwater, does extra cold damage, and incites greed in the person wielding it. He discovered no further connections with his Patron or the powers he has recently inherited.   With it being slightly dark after spending time with the trident, the party decides to return to the tavern. They have some drinks and Ragrim decides to go through the notes on Sandrine the Serene from the cultists. He discovers what was commonly known that Sandrine disappeared after the events with the Cult a decade ago. The notes also mention an island that was rumored to be a haven that Sandrine created and lived on, but the cultists were unsure of its exact location, but it was supposedly somewhere to the South-West. The party retires for the evening and completes a long rest.   In the morning the party decides to inform Garret Hartford about their findings at Karne Manor. He isn't in the Kraken's Reach so they go to the Redcliffe Smokeleaf Lounge. This is a store that selling pipes, cigars, and smokeleaf (tobacco). It is also a cafe where people eat and socialize. Garret is there talking with some other businessmen. The party fill Garret in on the details of what occurred, that there were zombies and cultists and that the Karne family was dead. Garret reports that the information is of little use to him, and that the Wayfinders have now made Karne Manor their base of operations.   The party leaves the Smokeleaf Lounge and goes to the town square for some shopping. Muraad purchases the last healing potion Madam Dorma has in stock. Muraad also pawns off the silverware he collected from Karne Manor to the wagon that The Nythe, the group of Halflings, had set up in the square. Miku Watomi sees them as she exits the General Store and tells them that she did some more research and discovered that a logical time for the portal to open is during the new moon, when it is the darkest. After being asked she tells the party that the next new moon is in 5 days.   The party decides to go to the harbor, primarily to find out more about the Wayfinders. They see the The Windblade the ship that the Wayfinders arrived in, but there are few other ships that are present in the harbor. They speak with Kragnel Goldflayer a Dwarf that serves as Harbormaster of Port Redcliffe. He tells them that they arrived around the time that the party decides to investigate the Shadewood. Kragnel doesn't know much, but he does know they are seeking glory and fame, and are particularly interested in rumors about the missing Kent family members in the Shadewood. They also are informed that they bear a charter signed by the Prince of Helias, the capital of the kingdom. They are also told about the problems of monsters in the Blood Iron Mines, which has forced a lot of townsfolk out of work.
