Humans
Humans are the most widespread species in Ethlon. They appear ordinary, many not having supernatural abilities. Yet they possess something that consistently disrupts the balance of the world: unshakeable will. This determination allows them to rise far beyond their limitations, or plunge everything into chaos. Despite their physical weakness, humans wield extraordinary influence. Their creations reshape landscapes, cultures, and even realms, for better or worse.
Subgroups
Basic Humans
The most common type of human. They have no supernatural abilities and live their lives unaware of the unseen realms around them. Their daily struggles and joys are excitement enough.
Magic Humans
Humans practice either natural or arcane magic. Most rely on natural magic; charms, wards, blessings, and rituals tied to nature and ancestry. A smaller number study arcane magic using glyphs, catalysts, and complex techniques. Magic serves everyday needs such as healing, fortune, protection, and occasionally mischief. It is a skill learned rather than inherited.
Livine Humans
Rare individuals born with the ability to wield livine energy, a sacred spiritual force. They act as protectors against malicious entities, purifying places, restoring balance, and banishing curses. In ancient eras they served temples; in modern societies they are often hired professionals, spiritual defenders for a world that claims not to believe in monsters.
Symseons
The rarest human subgroup, symseons possess innate psychic abilities. Sometimes subtle, sometimes overwhelming. Their gifts include telepathy, precognition, retrocognition, and other extraordinary senses. Their abilities are unpredictable and physically taxing, making training difficult. Those with strong influence are exceptionally valuable, and highly sought after.
Basic Information
Behaviour
Destroyers
Humans often believe progress demands change, and sometimes destruction. History records countless wars, mass experiments, and weapons built in the name of "advancement". Nothing remains untouched for a long when humanity decides to improve it.
Common Traits: Ambition, invention, conquest, unchecked curiosity
Protectors
Many humans act out of genuine compassion. They defend they love and stand against injustices even when outmatched. Their courage leaves lasting healing marks upon the world.
Common Traits: empathy, sacrifice, kindness, resilience
Complexity
Humans embody contradictions: generous and greedy, loving and hateful, protective and destructive, visionary and blind to consequences. Their intentions are rarely pure, and rarely wholly corrupt. This unpredictability makes humanity the most dangerous and most hopeful force in existence.
Humans are the spark in the dark. Sometimes igniting a guiding flame, sometime burning the world down.
Civilization and Culture
Average Technological Level
Beyond cars and modern weaponry such as firearms, humans have also created artificial intelligence (AI) and androids powered by that AI. They even built SAVR, a fully immersive virtual realm used as an escape, playground, or experimental frontier by human society.
Common Taboos
Many humans believe in the supernatural, and even those who do not believe generally agree on one thing: supernatural forces should not be provoked "just in case". Testing ghosts, demons, curses, or realms is widely seen as reckless or inviting disaster, especially in cultures with strong folklore or religious superstitions.
