Ruben Ten Broeck
Summary
A young officer in the British colonial army, Ruben is the old child of Heinricke Ten Broeke. Following in the line of the Van Brugge House, Ruben is building a career from himself out of military service. Having already served a tour in Umbra, Ruben is now in officer training on the nothern base on Bailen. He is expected to be off Umbra rotation for another year. His long-term professional goals are not clear yet, but the Van Brugge have just begun to position him socially to find a partner and start a family. Given the loss of Lottie, Ruben is a strong contender to be the next patriarch of the combined Dutch House.Reputation
Ruben was known as a sensitive child, and his father pushed him towards the military as a way to counteract his impulsiveness. Since Lottie's death, Ruben has become more sullen and depressed. He's quite dashing, and that makes him popular socially, but he's never really been extroverted enough to take advantage of it, and he's become quite insular and standoffish of late. The family hasn't pushed him that hard, but pressure is increasing for him to find a wife and start his line.
