Claire Harriman
Summary
Claire grew up as the oldest daughter of a wealthy railroad family in St. Louis. After a top-notch education and time to see the cities of the States, Claire was courted by and married Bruce Ivey. They came to Bailen Island with the rest of the Harrimans in the 1870s and became established with the completion of the American railroad. Claire is actively involved in cultural events, religious meetings, and societies, and is the leading face of the respectable side of the Amercan presence.Reputation
For the high society of Ecumene Claire is the exception that proves the rule about American uncouthness. Claire is the one American that the other Houses dignify as a peer. She's young still, but she's clever and literate and witty. She's done a good job of forwarding her Houses interest without being presumptuous or brash. But she's fairly closed in public, and no one really calls her a friend.Relationships
