The most powerful nation in the Omega-Aerutka star system, and thus also Ochtotne Prime. Ultimately a Cellean-descended nation, with many cultural elements and militaristic traditions inherited from it. Home of Quaken, place of residence of Skejon, and main region for Mad's Organization.

History

Origin

Ultimately, the Kingdom of Anakrion, as so many others, descends from the Cellean autocratic space. Refugees fleeing the chaos of the Slow Collapse of the empire made their way from near-core Cellean regions, and eventually settled in on the rim of human space, a small system now called Omega-Aurutka.

Torgallon

The history of the Kingdom of Anakrion begins with the dreams of two people, Faestos Termen and Scintil Karkena. Initially, Torgallon was alone as a habitat-state like millions of others throughout human space. Scintil, along with his already long-time friend and advisor Faestos, would climb the ranks to the de-facto leader of the state, and eventually champion for a city to be founded on the planet's surface.   It would take a decade or so, but this dream would come true one day. In 2691, the city of Lanfal City was founded, and with it, Scintil decided to push for a new full nation to be founded, named after the continent the new city stood on; Anakrion. And so, the nation of the Kingdom of Anakrion was properly founded, and the first King of Anakrion officially sworn in, taking on a new name; Rexaen Prim.

Post-Founding

Over the two centuries after the founding of the nation, the Kingdom would grow and expand, on the planet and in orbit. Many formerly independent city- and habitat-states were, most often, conquered and integrated, such as Seaside and Starside. The history of the Kingdom of Anakrion is marked by war, from a large war in the 2810s to the various city-state conquests, including those of New Suterr. From larger wars like the second invasion of New Suterr or the skirmishes over the eastern Mediteran coast to the far smaller first and third invasions of New Suterr and the other city-states.
"I've served personally under each King thus far. They varied, and most, I'd say, had high opinions of me. The Founder was a great man, of course. No question about it, he fought to found the nation we all now call home, and was a driven person even before the nation or his rise to rule on Torgallon. Vellen inherited much of the Founder's ideals. He had been involved with him since the beginning, which gave him a good grasp and drive to follow in his footsteps. His reign was full, and he retired accomplished and proud, rightly. Volonti was interesting. Consistently competent, yet highly mundane. Was a good chess player, though, and a good duel partner, nearly even with me. Andre... was volatile. While he grinded my gears to no end, and I his, he had promise. In just dueling alone, I could never match him. His fate was unfortunate, and I do miss him, though mostly for Anakrion's sake. Mele was good. As a King, he did good things, and while a somewhat boring person, he was a good statesman and general. Poio, meanwhile, was rock-steady. His rulings were consistently good, he had a good head on his shoulders, and, not rarely, I would find myself learning from him."
— Seventh King of Anakrion, Rexilis Ileas, Interview, 2872
  The Kings of Anakrion have been varied and diverse, each with considerable impact on the nation. From the first to the current;
  • Rexaen Prim (Scintil Karkena), Life: 2557 - Now, Reign: 2692 - 2704: First King and Founder of the Kingdom of Anakrion, exceptional duelist, phenomenal statesman. Revered throughout the nation, even two centuries after his disappearance.
  • Rexo Vilianore (Golna Vellen) Life: 2369 - 2856 , Reign: 2704 - 2754 : Initiated the first invasion of New Suterr, as well as stabilized the nation after the Founder's disappearance.
  • Rexsen Lior (Fai Volonti) Life: 2611 - 2785 , Reign: 2755 - 2785 : Ultimately rather unnotable as King, yet still no less important than the others. Facilitated the two Cellean heavy cruisers' attachment to the spacefleet. Skilled duelist.
  • Rexinnia De'Vaun (Illion Andre) Life: 2712 - 2788 , Reign: 2786 - 2788 : Masterful duelist, perhaps on the same level as the Founder. Tragically short rule, killed in combat against forces of the Vertul Republic during the Second invasion of New Suterr.
  • Rexamana Iter (Asi Mele) Life: 2550 - 2810 , Reign: 2789 - 2810 : Expanded the planetary presence of the kingdom by waging war against Shoo-Hai Coria, conquering Seaside. Likely assassinated, likely by Shoo-Hai Coria.
  • Rexolan Kil (Linto Poio) Life: 2261 - Now , Reign: 2811 - 2861 :Oldest King by far, and the only former one still alive today, at least to the general public's knowledge. Created on Earth. Currently serves as King Rexilis' advisor.
  • Rexilis Ileas (Faestos Termen), Life: 2448 - Now , Reign: 2862 - Now : Current King, began the Third Invasion of New Suterr and is currently waging it. Remarkably competent at politics, and extremely popular, as he has been around since the founding, as an advisor to the Kings.

Politics

Demographics

The population of the Kingdom of Anakrion numbers somewhere near 14 million people, mostly centered around the major population centers of the 13 territories, especially Torgallon, Lanfal City, and Diendam. As the trend of the planet goes, the population is nearly exclusive synthetic, and the human population makes up barely more than a rounding error, at a total of seven or so thousand people.

Governance

The Kingdom of Anakrion is, at the very base, a sort of democratically elected dictatorship. A King of Anakrion has a term of 50 years, and is elected by a vote from the entire populace. This King has absolute power on paper, but does effectively have to heed to word of the The Advisory Council, a council consisting of 39 councilors from across the nation.

Territories

13 major settlements make up the Kingdom of Anakrion. Eight in orbit, and five planetside. As follows:
In orbit; Torgallon, Incandule, Corinthin, Rock-Bastille, Starside, Illiastione, New Rome, Casi 922.
Planetside; Lanfal City, New Lanzarote, Diendam, Seaside and Napiel. The cities and habitats serve various purposes, from regular old population centers to mining and refining habitats like Corinthin or military-focused cities like Diendam or Napiel.   The nations also includes a number of smaller settlements and installations here and there. From the few military outposts past the Dertii Mountain Range to the mining facilities in the planet's ring delivering resources to Corinthin, they vary. The Kingdom also controls the largest shipyard in orbit, where the two heaviest ships of its fleet are kept.

Internal

"I don't care who Anakrionian Collections sends, I am not paying taxes!"
Mad
Anakrionian politics are relatively straightforward. The King has, ultimately, absolute power, though in more than a few cases, that power is delegated to other people; often members of the Advisory Council or local leaders.   There are sorts of political parties in the political landscape of Anakrion, though they are more rough coalitions and alliances of the councilors of the Advisory council. Generally, a King is almost always elected from a position within the Council, though the current King, Rexilis, is a notable exception, having never served in the council and instead as the Kings' close advisor. This in fact helped him substantially, even more so than a Council position would have.   Large companies also hold a position in politics, though only a influence-based one; they ultimately have no official say. The mining guilds of Corinthin are influential on the nation as a whole, though mostly focused on local politics, and the transport company of Aerutka-orbital Conveyance handles not only both of the Cyclers between Ochtotne Prime and Jett, but also not-insignificant amounts of Ochtotne Prime's orbital traffic.   The country is largely self-sufficient in most aspects; places like Corinthin supply raw materials for industry, while power is incredibly easy to make via Fusion power. Torgallon, Lanfal City, and a few other places also have significant factories for more advanced products.

Foreign

In the scheme of Ochtotne Prime's politics, the Kingdom of Anakrion is a very contentious nation. Of the five or so major nations, none are on friendly terms with it, and the majority of city- and habitat-states are even less so. Constant warmongering and subjugation and annexation of independent city-states have left quite a reputation for it, and the third repeated invasion of New Suterr is not helping. This being the case, there is something on a barely unofficial alliance forming. In a few years, perhaps a decade, it will likely form into a fully fleshed one, united against Anakrion.   Despite all of this, trade between the nations does occur. The Kingdom of Anakrion holds no trade with its rival, the Vertul Republic, but does with other nations. The city-states of Suterr's Flatland, New Suterr notwithstanding, trade some of their advanced materials to Anakrion, and Seaside is practically a trade city, managing the flow of trade from Colchis to Anakrion.

"I own a railgun for home defense, since that's what Scintil Karkena intended. Four members of Mad's gang break into my house. 'What the Devil?' As I grab my railgun and suit of power armour. Blow a hole so big his torso doesn't exist anymore through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my coilpistol on the second man, it misses entirely because the coil controller's misaligned and nails the neighbor's dog. I have to resort to the plasma cannon mounted at the top of my stairs loaded with superheated hydrogen. 'Tally ho lads!' The plasma cannon vapourizes two men in the blast, the intense heat and molten metal set off car alarms. Affix layered chain blade baynet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since layered chain blades cut through flesh like it isn't there."   Just as the Founder and First King of Anakrion intended.

Military

The pride of the Kingdom of Anakrion is its military, easily. As a nation and culture that heavily took after Cellea, it is very militaristic to the core. While, at the end of the day, proper military service is voluntary, every citizen does have to do some time in the military. And while voluntary, the military is still a rather popular career choice.   The largest section of the Anakrionian military is the ground forces. Decently well-trained, consisting nearly exclusively of synthetics, the army of the Kingdom of Anakrion handles not only warfare on the land of Ochtotne Prime, but also the orbital structures and habitats. It also manages the police force, though as a separate, subdivision of a sort, called the Anakrionian Guard (not to be confused with the Anakrionian Royal Guard, who protect the King and the Planca Me Rex.   A counterpart to the ground forces is, naturally, the ocean-based navy. Relatively rare in modern day as they are, these fleets fit the very water-covered surface of the planet rather well, especially since the main rival nations of the kingdom are on the other major continent. The level of orbital control the nation has does limit the usefulness of the ocean fleets somewhat, though.   The other major element of the military is the spacefleet. The warships are all contained within the Anakrionian Defense Fleet, though there are other non-combat ships in the navy, such as troop transports and logistics vessels. The pride and joy of the spacefleet are the two old Cellean heavy cruisers, mounted with very powerful weaponry and technology beyond even Ak'Thakra. The fleet handles everything in orbit, from piracy prevention and security, to proper war, though there have not been many large-scale ones in orbit, as space resources are far more precious that ground ones in the region.

Technology

The technology of the Kingdom of Anakrion is approximately, compared to the technological progression of Earth and the Core Worlds, in the late 2300s. Fusion technology, for example, is very common, whereas Antimatter-related technologies are practically absent. FTL travel is a major exception to this, as is the case all over human space. Things like brain-computer interfaces, screenglass, and even relatively simple nanomachines exist and are relatively common, though other stuff like Predictive Analysis Interfaces or Plasma weaponry are not. They exist, but only really in old Cellean pieces of technology, like in the Crown of the Sovereing or the two heavy cruisers.

Culture

As a Cellean-descendant culture, the Kingdom of Anakrion's dominant culture takes after Cellean culture quite a bit. As Cellean culture was primarily from the Iberian peninsula, the Kingdom of Anakrion also inherited that. There are other elements, blended along the way into both Cellean and Anakrionian culture, such as Latin influences on the language or Italian-descended cultural elements. The official language, too, is primarily descended after Old Cellean, which itself is distinctly traceable back to Spanish, back on Earth.   The Cellean elements are especially present in one specific aspect; the culture is very militaristic, and military service is largely celebrated and respected. In that vein, Dueling is also a large part of Anakrionian culture. While duels as a way of resolving arguments or spited honour are uncommon, they are a very popular sport. Quaken, for example, regularly visits the dueling hall of Lanfal City along with Skejon.
"Last I checked, the Kingdom of Anakrion has been involved in... 72 wars, over its lifetime. Well, specifically, it's been five large-scale wars between two or more major powers, nineteen invasions and/or conquests of independent city-states and habitats, and the rest is small scuffles over stations and outposts. By contrast, the planet's entire history holds about 160 wars, by those metrics, in total."
— Quaken
Another notable element of the culture is synthetic-focused nature of it. The population being overwhelmingly Sapient Synthetics in demographics, things like tattoos or jewelry are somewhat different. In fact, String Jewelry is the most common form of jewelry, being attached to the Form-plating or synthetics directly, in varied ways. Even someone like Skejon, who's only lived on Ochtotne Prime for a few decades, is rather decorated, whereas the King himself is covered in the decorations. Another tradition, Cellean-derived, is Shoulderpad allegiance denotion, which has remained largely unchanged from its Cellean origins.
