Sangelo

Demographics

The majority of the city's population is elven in some nature, to the tune of 75%. Human's compose 20% of the population. Leaving dwarves to make up the remaining 5% majority. The small dwarven population makes up the large majority of skilled artisans in the city, with the remaining along with the humans forming the bulk of physical laborers.
The elven population is split almost in half of those who are tied to @House Mivani either through being actually nobles, being "adopted" for the arcane abilities, or by weak blood ties that have them serving as near 2nd class citizens for the more directly related noble families. The other half of the population functions as merchants, low-skill artisans, or keepers & students of knowledge kept within the cities libraries.

Government

Mother Mivani is the supreme matriarch of the city and of all of House Mivani. She manages the cities affairs herself, though trusting a select few Mivani families to manage things such as the cities defenses and the trading guilds. There is no taxation in the city whatsoever, however any its citizens are expected to offer their services freely when they are asked for it.
There isn't much that is illegal within the city. Murder, kidnapping, enslavement, blackmail, all allowed with two stipulation. None of these acts are allowed to be done in the light of day. And acts that have longstanding and visible implications such as enslavement or kidnapping must be first approved by a member of the noble family. The final say always comes back to Mother Mivani however. If she disapproves of these actions then the aggressor and the party who approved it will be punished. This and Mother Mivani's dislike of disorder has kept the city orderly for centuries.

Defences

The defense of the city is made up of two parts, the Naval Watch and the Iceborn. The Naval Watch functioned and continues to function as the cities sole naval defense. With impressively sturdy warships and an extensively trained marine corp. The navy ranges between 30-45 sloop-of-war, 15-20 frigates, and 3-10 galleass. The smaller vessels used mostly for patrol and boarding attacking ships. While the larger warships have been packed with an impressive armament of long ranged physical and arcane weaponry.
The Iceborn who have numbered in the thousands are a hardened force of foot based infantry who have fearlessly slammed through enemy positions. Tearing through formations with wordless efficiency. Though skilled fighters, none of their forces included trained casters. Instead formations were supplemented by civilian casters when it was deemed necessary. In later years after the Chaos War their numbers were dramatically reduced as House Mivani viewed the cursed Lunar Hills enough of a deterring force for larger groups of land based attackers.

Infrastructure

The tight streets of the city make traversing it very difficult. Dead end allies, roads that have been blocked by new buildings, and the strange curves of the paths make travel long and not at all easy without some sort of guide. With the help of a guide however, you can seek out and find many beautiful vantage points of the sprawling city. Sites only able to be seen from the many towering library spires or raised gardens scattered around. The city does have an extensive sewer system which is even more complex then the city streets. Rumor says that part of the sewer system actual empties off into ancient & deep Revic ruins beneath the city. Though no one seems to know how to find a way down into said ruins.
The docks of the city are separated into three portions. The north docks which are for merchants and travelers to and from Cristal Lake. The central docks which are exclusively for the docking of the Naval Watch. As well as being the location of the cities shipyard. The central docks are the second most defended locations in the city. Finally the south docks where people traveling within the Northern River Reaches are welcomed to dock. While smaller then the north docks, the south docks have a greater number of inns and taverns for visitors to frequent.

Guilds and Factions

The Naval Watch The Naval Watch was created to defend House Mivani's assets throughout its territories in its early days. However it has since become Sangelo's primary defending force. Upon its creation, the Mother Mivani at the time gave control of it to the Matros Mivani family. The Matros had a deep bloodline connection to Mother Mivani, and for that served House Mivani well for many years as naval command. However during the Noble Wars the Matros began to falter in their duties as more battles were lost. Members of the Lodican family began to be recruited into advisory and command positions for the expertise as shipwrights and their understanding of the limitations of naval vessels. Close to the Noble War's conclusion the Lodican family made a move and requested to assume direct control of the Naval Watch. Proclaiming the Matros families inabilities to the Mother Mivani herself. Swaying her, the Matros were cut out from the House Mivani and the Lodican family has maintained control of the Naval Watch since that fateful day.
The Naval Watch protects the city and serves as customs to all vessels entering House Mivani waters. While its members are boastful, loud, and prideful to a fault, the maintain their right to be with the amount of training and discipline they can summon when combat is afoot. That being said, the corruption of captains with their own vessels is exceedingly high. With "import" taxes fluctuating wildly depending on which captain inspects the vessel.   Julthali Magistrate Also know simply as the Magistrate, this group has been run by a single family since the beginning of House Mivani. The Julthali family were first to back the original Mother Mivani during the creation of the noble house, and has since acted as matriarchs' exclusive voice to the rest of the Mivani. Because the Mother Mivani rules Sangelo directly, and the Julthali's special position as her roving voice, the members of the family have become the entirety of the legal system. Handing down rulings and punishments for the more mundane issues that the matriarch does wish to handle directly. Though they have the ability to abuse their immense power it never seems to be done. Always attempting to tow the line of fair, just, and order. For this fact alone the common citizens respect the Magistrate greatly, and the noble families are greatly terrified of them.   Court of the 9 Towers This group controls the stores of knowledge within the arcane towers of Sangelo. Each tower houses arcane knowledge exclusive to a single school of magic, with the ninth housing tomes of historical texts. Each of these towers is headed by a different Mivani family. A fact that causes much infighting and bickering between them as the fight for control or attempt to wrest knowledge from one a different tower. The groups true purpose is to mandate the allowed forms of magic & knowledge within the city, however concern of the city is low on the courts list of priorities. With the exception of the Ninth Tower of history.
The First Tower of Abjuration is controlled by the Defluvus family.
The Second Tower of Conjuration is controlled by the Suumac Family.
The Third Tower of Divination is controlled by the Medeacrom Family.
The Fourth Tower of Enchantment is controlled by the Elvatris Family.
The Fifth Tower of Evocation is controlled by the Flatrium Family.
The Sixth Tower of Illusion is controlled by the Hadunis Family.
The Seventh Tower of Necromancy is controlled by the Quarkuline Family.
The Eighth Tower of Transmutation is controlled by the Philatruis Family.
The Ninth Tower of History is controlled by the Wadfaruis Family.   Trade Union The union is in charge of negotiating large interhouse trade agreements, issuing trade mandates, managing exports and imports, and many more duties regarding regulatory trade issues. This organization is the only one where common citizens can hold a great amount of power within the city and much of House Mivani territories. This is caused by the fact that control of the Trade Union is a very much vied after position by the Mivani families. With the amount of political sway and general wealth it gives to its controllers it is no wonder. However control of the union can be changed in a heartbeat if the Mother Mivani notices the tides of commerce are turning against House Mivani. After all it is the controlling families duty to regulate trade in favor of the house, and if they cannot then they are replaced. The constant shifting of leadership has led the common citizens to maintain much of the day to day and regulatory proceedings for the union. The leadership might choose the direction things are heading, but the people who have worked their decades upon decades hold the real power of change.   Iceborn & The Guard The standing land based army of the city and House Mivani. A powerful fighting force numbering in the thousands early on in the cities history. Soldiers trained to the harsh winter elements and harness to their advantage. No one family controls the Iceborn, instead they are pledged to the Mother Mivani herself. Specially selected Generals during times of war or great conflict to command them in the Mother's stead. The last such general was Figaroth Ultanus Mivani who served during the Tyman Mivani War during the Traback Division. After that war they now serve in much smaller numbers as a token city defense force under a selected Guard Prefect. The Guard consists of very few noble Mivani. Only the Guard Prefect and a few lieutenants. The guard holds little power themselves and instead reports directly to the Magistrate.
