Yellowstone Eruption 3016

One moment everything was normal, the next, it was raining fire and ash. We had no warning; they thought it was impossible...

Volcanic Super-eruption

On the 24th September 3016, the Yellowstone Volcano erupted. This eruption caused mass destruction to the surrounding area (the clouds of ash reaching miles in each direction). It drastically altered the landscape, and destroyed the homes and lives of many people   At around 4 in the afternoon the previous day, locals made reports of smoke coming from the volcanic caldera. Scientists didn't the believe that the volcano would ever erupt again, and so although some areas close to the volcano were evacuated, daily life went on as normal. And then the volcano erupted...

Lack of Warning

Scientific systems had been used to monitor the volcano for many years, but as time went on and there was no signs of a volcanic eruption, these monitors where tested and checked less and less frequently. Therefore, when an eruption finally occurred, the people in the surrounding area had very little warning, and many lives were lost in the evacuation.

Effects

Geographic

The super-eruption caused a further collapse of the volcanic caldera and magma streams caused the creation of new mountain ranges. Most of the surrounding houses were destroyed, and the land became a barren wasteland of destruction. Even a thousand years later, very little work has been done to clear the area, and it is left like a museum of the disaster.

Social

Many people lost their lives during the disaster, and many more lost their homes and jobs. The volcanic eruption caused a large number of refugees to turn to the nearby cities and towns for shelter which led to a lack of housing in the area surrounding the Yellowstone Volcano.
