Summer Camp Prep 2025
It's Summer Camp time again!!! My second summer camp starts in a month and I am so full of excitement. After taking an unexpected break from WorldAnvil for the last 5 months due to my health, Summer Camp reminded me that it was time to come back to doing what I love; writing silly nonsense and sharing it with all you wonderful people. I'm really glad to be back!
Theme 1: Nourishment
What are my Summer Camp goals?
Honestly? I don't have a clear goal. After taking such an extended break from worldbuilding over the last few months I've realised how important it is to prioritise your own needs and recognize when that means taking a step back from work (whether it's a hobby or not). Because of this, I'm not setting any clear goals this Summer Camp, I'm going to write what feels right and not worry too much about the numbers. Maybe I'll manage diamond but if I don't it doesn't really matter because I'll have had fun!Thinking about the meta...
Due to a lack of internet this month I have been very behind on my Summer Camp prep and will in all honesty probably not have time to do this assignment. But in some ways I guess that's the beauty of the homework, we can do as much or as little of it as we need. Outside of the meta, I do however have a small list of tasks that I would like to complete with the most important being an overhaul of Starsong's CSS!Theme 2: Roots
Homepage and Primer
Currently, I'm very happy with my homepage and primer and don't feel a huge need to change their content. Although the styling of both should change sometime before Summer Camp if I can get finished with the new CSS (which may even be finished before this article!)
Last Summer Camp I primarily focused on the Strions, an alien species who live outside of our solar system. This Summer Camp, I want to focus on the humans. I want to explore the long and complicated history of the planet Earth and the events that have lead up to The Last Voyage.
I want to think about the different cultures of humans, how they interact with each other and what civilization might look like 2000 years into the future!
My Earliest Worldbuilding
My earliest piece of worldbuilding would almost definitely be from when I was a very young child and because of that I'm sure that there would be many things I would change. But I do know that I would like to channel that creativity and fun into my work this Summer Camp.
Theme 3: Metamorphosis
Characters are always shaped by the world that they live in. The environmental, political and cultural climate of a world directly impacts the decisions a character makes and I'd like to explore that this summer camp. I'm hoping to write about some of the different cultures and organizations on Earth and how they have changed over time.
Worlds That Inspire Me
Instead of thinking individually about genres and articles, below is a list of wonderful worlds from the community that inspire my worldbuilding. They cover a range of styles and genres but are all uniquely interesting. I hope you like them too!
Theme 4: Tomorrow
The world of Starsong is balanced on a tightrope where one wrong step could cause the end of all humanity, but The Last Voyage leaves us with a small shred of hope. The real questions to explore, is what agency the characters have over their world? There are many groups fighting for the future they believe to be ideal and with such conflicting interests there can only be one outcome. This Summer Camp I'd really like to explore the motivations of these characters and elaborate on their ideals for the future.
Community and Support
After such a long break I'm super excited to hang out with the wonderful community over in the discord! There is always such a great vibe around the major challenges and I love discussing and sharing ideas with everyone.
I've also recently set up a twitch channel (also called Adventures_of_Isle) with the hope of streaming some cozy games and worldbuilding things. Hopefully I might find some time over July to stream some summer camp co-working stuff but if I don't I'm still looking forward to spending time with the community!
Last Minute Prep
Well, at least some of my last minute prep has been finishing the homework!
Alongside that, I've stocked up on lots of good snacks and four different flavours of tea! I love herbal and fruit teas when I'm writing but am also very picky about which tea is right for the mood. I currently I have berry, camomile, green tea and lemon, and ginger and turmeric tea ready in preparation.
I unfortunately haven't had much time to look over my current stubs and articles so I think I'm just going to make it up as I go along and just aim to write as much cool stuff as I can!
Final Thoughts
Writing this less than 24 hours before the first wave of prompts release I am so excited to finally get back to working on Starsong! I'm hoping this summer camp will help me explore parts of the world that I had been thinking about for a long time but hadn't figured out how to write, and I hope that even if I don't get to write too much I'll still have a lot of fun. With the time left before summer camp officially starts I'm going to go and read as many other homework articles as I can find. I wish you all so much luck with your own summer camps!
