But the project turned catastrophically awry. The machines, corrupted by a programming flaw, turned on their creators, unleashing devastation upon human settlements. The destruction culminated in a massive explosion that shattered the lab and released a torrent of Medalla’s bitter cold across the northern reaches of Pegasi, transforming the region into a frozen wasteland.
