Session 02 - The Mountains
General Summary
The squad is sent after another lead on the missing TIE fighters one of their black boxes has been sending encoded emergency transmissions from a mountain skimmer-racing resort on Belassar-3. They tangle with the Blackstalkers once again, but emerge victorious with the unexpected help of a third party.
Lt. Horne gives them the briefing, warns them it is almost certainly a trap, but because the squad are aware of the missing ships, they are now assigned to tracking down this lead. Sgt. Gren will lead them himself this time. Excluding Spcm. Rollo Galaar, who is still merely attached as technical expert, they are deployed as a provisional unit, formally, which "Horne" (the players!) names Havoc Squad, after a famous special forces unit from the Old Republic days.
They deploy via shuttle to Belassar-3, landing at the former mining outpost, which is in the process of being converted into a skimmer-racing resort.
At the resort, they ask around, and the staff point them to the only other guest here at the moment-- Ren, an up-and-coming racer up in the mountains for pre-season training, his “sky bunny” arm candy gals, and bodyguard. They seem innocuous enough, having only just arrived themselves.
They then follow the black box signal to the resort's search & rescue vehicle repair bay. The mechanic, Crios, wanting no trouble with Stormtroopers, tells them a group of tourists brought it from a nearby valley, and that the squad can use the S&R vehicles (a speeder and two speeder bikes) to check it out. The location is another old mining facility on the Mt. Zute Caldera, about a two-hour flight away.
Along the way, Gren waxes poetic about his home, and how he used to be a tour guide in mountains similar to these. He asks the squad about their homes.
When they reach the mining facility, the squad finds most of the TIE parked in an old ore processing plant that is conspicuously cracked open. Inside, the place is rigged with explosives to cave in, which they notice upon entering: the previous attack was a coincidence, this one is an ambush.
During the inevitable firefight, a third party shoots down some Blackstalker reinforcements outside, and Galaar’s Mandalorian heritage is revealed as he speaks Mando'a with one of them women, who turns out to be from Ren's entourage-- clearly more than some skimmer-racer's arm candy! Rollo asks that the squad keep this detail out of the official report, and Sgt. Gren grants his request... as long as he joins the squad. Rollo accepts, somewhat begrudgingly, and after the mission, he is formally transferred to Stormtrooper Command as a member of the squad.
