Character Creation Guide

In order to get started here in Helvetica, you must first create your character and submit it to be approved. We only allow the use of character sheets that are compatible with sheets from D&D Beyond, Google Sheets, and Dicecloud are acceptable. If you need assistance with creating a character sheet, please feel free to ask for help in the #questions-and-answers channel in the discord

Creation Rules

Minmaxing And Powerplay

Instead of nerfing abilities and restricting poorly worded spells, we prefer to instead leave them as written in DnD 5e, and instead give our players a single caveat, if you abuse an ability, or a character build, or any other strong ability, you may be asked to stop, or be forced to leave the server, if it is deemed to be negatively impacting the experience of other players/DMs, or contradicting the environment we aim to maintain here in this server. Remember that in this server, the owners and staff reserve the right to ask you to stop with any behavior deemed to be unbalancing to the server environment. Though we promise you will never be punished on a first offense, if you find a new strategy that is very strong, you are fully allowed to use it, however continual overuse of such strategies will warrant a warning from staff if it is deemed to be harming the server environment. In addition to this, we also give all DMs full authority to control what players are allowed/not allowed to use/bring during their own quests. If you feel a DM is abusing this rule, please contact a member of staff to have the issue resolved.

Server Rules

Some rules have been put into plase and some base options of Dungeons and Dragons are prohibited here whether that is because of problems they cause in a Westmarch Setting or they are just too strong.

The Silvery barbs spell is banned.

No backgrounds get expanded spell lists.

No backgrounds get feats.

You can not share items amongst the PCs you own. This may be bypassed with express staff approval or via certain unreleased WIP mechanics.

Player wizards cannot share their spell books with other player wizards.

The Lucky feat is banned

The Clone spell is banned

Resurrection Spells And Abilities

In Helvetica, Resurrection spells an abilities that resurrect creatures from the dead do not exist. The only way to bring a character back to life is through a resurrection quest (the details are explained in the Player Character Resurrection article. Additionally as compensation, classes and subclasses with such abilities gain the following abilities to replace the original ones. Below is the replacements for classes and subclasses:

Zealot Barbarian

Warrior of the gods replacement You gain resistance to Radiant or Necrotic damage, the type is opposite of the one you chose for your Divine Fury feature.

Replace Revivify with Mass healing word Replace Raise dead with Greater Restoration

Replace Revivify with Fireball

Way Of Mercy

Hand of ultimate mercy replacement Your mastery of life and death opens the doorway to greater salvation. When you use your flurry of blows feature, you can choose to target a willing or allied creature with your unarmed strikes. You automatically hit, and instead of dealing damage, the creature gains hit points equal to the damage they would have taken. A creature can benefit from this only once per turn. You cannot target yourself with this feature.

Character Creation

Starting Level

In Helvetica we believe that flavor is important especially when starting the character fresh, which is hard to do at level 1 and so in this server the starting level for all new characters is Level 3 which is allowed to be split between classes, althouigh if you wish you may start at level 1. If you are retiring a character, you may take half the level of the retired character and add it to a new character you create.

Stat Generation

We do not allow the usage of the !randchar command in terms of rolling for stats, nor the usage of manually rolling on D&D Beyond. If you would like to roll for stats, use the !rollstats command in your character ticket, the result will be your character's stats - and you can distribute them however you please. Additionally we allow the use of point buy, and standard array at all times, for any character. If you don’t like your roll, you may use one of the aforementioned instead.

Homebrew

This server allows homebrew content, and has a list of homebrew classes, feats, races, and more that are free to use as you please. This server also has homebrew items and monsters so a monster or item may not be what it appears to be. Additionally, if there is a piece of homebrew content that you would like to play on the server, you may open a ticket via the #submission-ticket channel where once posted in its ticket will be reviewed by our Homebrew Team to see whether or not it may be allowed for play. You may multiclass into or out of a homebrew class or subclass with permission.

Playable Races and Optional Rules

In Helvetica we use the most recently published version of any race. All of the optional class features and race rules of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything are allowed.

When choosing the "Custom Lineage" race, instead of increasing one stat by +2, you must increase two stats by +1.

Firearms

Whenever your class would give you a longbow or crossbow and 20 ammo for that weapon, you may exchange it for an appropriate and exchange the ammo for ammo that is appropriate for the firearm.

Light Crossbows can be exchanged for Flintlocks.

Crossbows and Bows can be exchanged for Muskets.

Additional Information

Character Slots

You're restricted to having two characters at maximum. This level increases to three character slots at level 7, four character slots at level 14, and five character slots at level 19. If your character dies, these character slots are permanent.

Epic Boons

When a character earns 50 badges after reaching level 20, they recieve an Epic Boon which they can choose from. These boons are powerful tools and so you may only gain one epic boon per character.

Character Submission And Importing Into Avrae

When you create a character sheet, you must open a ticket using the #character-submissions channel, and fill out the form provided by the bot in the newly created ticket channel, when the character is approved by a DM use the !import command, followed by a link to your character sheet and use the /create command to log the character with the Labyrinthian bot. If you wish to use Gsheet to submit a character you may use our Gsheet that uses the badge system instead of the exp system for quality of life.
