Savrun's Rebellion
A year ago, in the year 850 AC, a turmoil began brewing in the bowels of the Marigold Empire. This story does not begin with any particular action, nor any particular figure, but instead a town effected by the hands of the Marigold Empire. Controlled and extorted, the mining town began to grow to a state of unrest. The once-extorted humans had worked the mining town of elves and dwarves to their furthest extent, as though they were taking vengeance for the crimes committed against them in the Calamity. Quietly, in the safety of their hard, stone workplace, they collected metal, sulfur, wood, and nitre. Deep within the caves, they disassembled a stolen musket, and looked from head to toe at it's form. The dwarves used their skills to replicate parts... and improve upon them. They researched for months... before they had created one, single weapon; the pride of Savrun, the Verminenskiver, a musket that could hold 3 rounds before needing to be loaded once more, by means of it's rotary chamber. It's ammunition was secured in the loading mechanism by means of hot wax poured in, locking it all into place. A hammer, much like an ordinary musket, laid on the back, and when fired, would ignite a spark in a small hole connected to the explosive fuel.
This technology was highly advanced, considering how inefficient muskets were at that time. In just 6 short months afterwards, they had produced 3 more. The rebellion within Savrun, or better said; the entirety of Savrun was confident in this technology, as they had been gathering muskets as well, allowing them to hold their own in any scenario against armed musketmen from the Marigold Empire. Soon, they began using much of the mined stone to build a vast stone brick wall around their mining town, which was protected naturally by the mountains at their back. Three turrets assured the protection of the land within and outside of Savrun, overlooking every place one could possibly hide amidst the battlefield. Between these turrets were paths upon the walls, assuring that musketmen from Savrun could keep the hail of ammunition down upon the enemies when they inevitably arrived.
On the 14th of March, Savrun declared they were independent from the Marigold Empire, leading to an immediate response from the Marigold Empire, which warned them to return to the towns and cities within the Marigold Empire, though no threat was made. The Savrunians stayed awake day and night, preparing for the war against the Marigold Empire, believing that they would live through the encounter with the technologically advanced empire of humans. A month later, on the 13th of April, the first wave of Marigold troops entered the battle field with the Savrunians, catching them off-guard, as there had been no sign of military preparation or threats delivered to them by the hands of the Marigold Empire.
Despite this sudden onslaught, the Savrunians quickly and efficiently stomped out any form of opposition, using their new weaponry and abundance of minerals to create black powder to their advantage. They waged a battle that lasted nearly a month, where occasional reinforcements from the Marigold Empire entered combat, oftentimes being wiped out in waves of attempted sieges. Eventually, the onslaughts stopped.
When the dust settled, the rumbling of footsteps had already filled the air, and distorted the ground. The footsteps of an encroaching army filled the air, led by a force of knights not yet known to the world. These knights were known as the Gaobrandt Division, a force of troops adorned in armor thicker than any plate, and covered in unusual, sharp patterns, with no visible weak points, and a shield as tall as themselves, thicker than the armor itself... paired with lances. Some bore unusual weaponry, though only one did not bear a shield during the battle.
Firearms and other ranged weapons proved ineffective against the hardened armor of the knights, simply ricocheting into the dirt before or around them, their footsteps leaving craters in the muddied ground around Savrun. The approach was slow and painful, but was left unstopped, the shields saving the armed troops behind them, unveiling their weapons that transcended the Verminenskiver by nearly tenfold technologically, known simply as the 'revolver'. The compact design of the same weapon overpowered many of the musketmen upon the walls, picking them off at an extremely rapid pace.
When they reached the wall, it was breached by means of dynamite, causing many more casualties... thus beginning the end of Savrun's Rebellion. The events past here are referred by rebels as the 'Massacre of Savrun', in which women, men, and children were killed, assuring there would be nothing left of the rebellion.
Of the 4 Verminenskivers, only 3 have been located, and a bounty is out for the last weapon. To this day, rebels to the Marigold Empire are known as 'Savvies', singular; 'Savvie', considered highly offensive to many rebels to the Marigold Empire. This term is often used to mock, or otherwise degrade rebels' wills to fight the Empire.
