Magic Item Creation

Downtime can be spent replicating the enchantments and intricacies of magic items they've seen. While difficult it is certainly rewarding.

Requirements

The player must be familiar with the item they wish to craft, this can be done by researching the item on the Research Downtime Activity or by seeing it and seeing how it works as they go about in their life. They must also meet the minimum level requirement of the item according to the table below. Homebrew items cannot be crafted unless they explicitly state so. The character must be proficient in the relevant artisan or crafting tool. For example, to craft a ring of spell storing, the character need proficiency in Jeweler's Tools, see the table below to see which tool proficiency you need for each type of item.

Resolution

Once you've meet all the requirements you can begin the crafting process. Start by making a number of d20 Checks DC16 equal to the total number of Downtime Points needed to create the item based on it's rarity. For each failed check the Downtime Points and gold pieces needed to craft the item are increased by 1 point and 25 gold pieces respectibly (you do not make additional checks for the added downtime points). If you are proficient in the relevant tool set that is needed for that item, you may add your proficiency bonus to each roll. If you have expertise in the relevant tool set, you may add your proficiency bonus twice to each roll. If you do not have enough downtime or gold to cover the increased cost you may pay the costs at a later time (you do not complete the item until costs are paid). Ammo comes in bundles of ten except for "Arrow of Slaying", which is crafted one at a time.

Contract Work

A character(s) may help you by spending Downtime Points and/or gold to complete the item, if everyone spends an equal amount of Downtime Points (rounded up) that add up or surpass the magic item's required total, You may add the proficiency bonus of all involved characters that are proficient in the required tool for the crafting process checks.
Blueprints
To begin the process of crafting a magic item, you must first own a blueprint for that item. Blueprints are obtained by heading out on a quest to retrieve them from places such as crypths, castles, an old manor, etc. In order to know where to quest to you must earn 3 research successes on the item and it's location in the Research Downtime Activity.
