Introduction to Corrinth

Written by Fates

852 years ago, at the end of the 3rd Holy Era, An event would shake the world and change it forever.   No one knows where the Eldrazi came from, but they took advantage of the continent spanning gateways to quickly spread to every city and nation. In the beginning, the battles were decisively victorious, but the onslaught was endless wearing down the survivors. The defiant cities of the northwest were initially spared due to the embargo but soon The Calamity spread from the fallen cities throughout the continent. There were no terms of surrender nor any prisoners. All were brutally slaughtered when the wisest realized the terror of a billion dead souls empowered and strengthened the Calamity and fleeing was the only option.   The Eldrazi Titans did not simply stop at those that dwelled within the world of Helvetica, they grew hungry for the gods, and so they went to devour them, murdering god after god in what seemed like a horrific display of power. Brisela was the worst, and the most powerful of the Eldrazi she loved to torment the gods, and used angels, and demons as her flesh, fusing them into her body, as she loved their beautiful wings, and lovely skin. The Eldazri Titans that wreaked havoc across Helvetica would soon meet the end of their destruction. Ulomoa was the first to fall, Cecilia Calaide had slain her with the help of what she believed was the old gods... Ulomoa’s corpse still resides where it fell, now guarded by Drakkonmet. This death of an Eldrazi Titan was finally a turn that helped the war and caused the downfall of the others.   This event lasted 400 years, and is known as the "Era of Calamity".

Themes

Themes of Helvetica

The world is intended to feel both light and dark just like any world would be with a mix of Fantasy and Magitek. Many of the civilisations in Helvetica are just entering their own respective renaissance while the kingdom of man has just entered their own Industrial Era with the invention of Magitek.   Ruins of lost civilisations from the Calamity remain unused and some even corrupted and too dangerous to live near. Marigold has started encroaching on other civilisations, using their Magitek and Firearms to overwhelm their enemies. They wish to show the world that Humans aren't weak, that they will no longer be looked down on and used as slaves ever again.

Corrinth

Corrinth is a city on the continent of Tyrha that sits on the shores of a grand lake that has a canal which leads to the sea, giving them a bountiful resource of fish that are of all kinds as well as some other manners of sea creatures which sell for quite a bit. The city mostly prides themselves on fish, but also their lush jungle that provides many different types of fruit and insects for the city to eat.
Corrinthian Art
Corrinth prides itself on its art which it views as its buildings and the marble statues which are fairly popular in Corrinth. One of the most beloved and cherished art piece is the “Ode to Pacifica” which is a combination piece held in City Hall. It is a 20ft Marble statue of a woman, the founder of Corrinth holding a painting of a desert. This art piece symbolizes the fact that Pacifica on her heroic journey to find herself instead found the area that would soon become Corrinth, finding that her purpose was to create a haven for adventurers and travelers. She was also the first person to eat an insect monster in Corrinth. When it comes to literature however there is nothing that stands out much except for the children's book about how Pacifica walked through scorching white desert sands to make it to where Corrinth is now.
Political System
The political system of Corrinth resembles an Athenian Democracy in which all the citizens vote on all the laws. Rather than voting for representatives and so each citizen was expected to vote for every law. There are still government officials however they do not control much when it comes to these laws. Every four years a new leader is chosen that has a connection to nature and magic, these woman are called Aethuria. Three of these woman are chosen and the vast public get to decide if they are worthy. Aethuria are much like Oracles and are wise woman of magic, nature and dignity, they are raised in the Angurla Temple that sits on the cliffside overlooking the bay. The current leader of the Aethuria is called “Diana” and has been in her position for almost four years.
Occupied
Currently Corrinth has been occupied by the Marigold Empire. Their troops have replaced almost all of the guards in Corrinth, and by the end of the century it is believed that Corrinth will be fully assimilated into Marigold. There is a Rebellion that opposes the occupation althouh it is currently fighting an uphill battle

Triniads

"It's a nice change of pace to live among Triniads, instead of humans. This new world has so many things to discover, and the natives here are my first discovery yet - they're a kind, gentle community. If you find yourself lucky enough to happen upon them, enjoy your stay, take a rest, and make some friends - adventuring doesn't have to be all blood and gore."
— Diana Rensglow
Triniads are the native race of Tyrha and make up a healthy percentage of the population on the continent. Corrinth is the only Triniad city and although it is occupied by more than just triniads, they still make up 30% of the population of Tyrha.
Anatomy
With a life span between 600 to 1000 years and pointed tip ears, they are often mistaken for elves although the two races are quite different. Triniads are humanoids that are descended from wyverns, noted by their four fingered hands and four toed digitrigrade feet. Triniads lay eggs, despite being mammals, making them monotremes. When a Triniad is hatched, they recieve a marking known as a semblance that determines that Triniad's role in the community.   It is believed that the Triniad have racial ties to the Au'Ra with the two developing different racial features and appearances to fit with their environments.
Communities
Triniads usually live in small communities in villages and hamlets that are comprised of fifty or so Triniads. These communities are often lead by a single male hotblood, though there are instance of female hotbloods leading, and even some quickbloods. Although mostly comprised of intellectuals and spiritualists, Triniad leaders are often selected based on their physical strength or their martial prowess. Young Triniads are often encouraged to venture out of the village to find a new one to live and find love and purpose in, this is done to discourage inbreeding within the relatively small population of each village.

The Veil

"Yes, I was the first man to see it and tell of it... but I know certainly I am not the first man to see it. That title belongs to many men who now rest at the bottom of the seas. I leave my journal open for whomever wishes to document more. When the winds blow strong, raise your sails and sail just as strong."
— Victor Krast
Known by many names; the Veil (or the Krastorveil) is a phenomena with many unknowns, as it's very existence defies all that magic, science, and history knows. It's discovery is only denoted by word of mouth and by the journals of a man known as Victor Krast, a scientist, explorer, and sailor. The first known contact of the Veil was recorded in his journal, in which it states the arduous journey to reach it, and the impossible amount of power it withholds. Described in his journal, the first step to accessing the Veil is making it through the winding storms that billow outwards to the furthest horizons, ever shifting.
Entering the Veil
When one passes the threshold of these storms, they're greeted with the wall of purple energy that denotes the beginning of the Veil. It's surface is held together as though it were some form of liquid with water tension, but occasionally it breaks, producing what is called a Veilstyrm, later written in the journal of Victor Krast in his later years. With newer technology and a greater understanding, it's shocking how accurate his writings were, likening it to a massive, shifting splash of energy on the surface of the world. A Veilstyrm is often categorized by the Krast-Lythe Scale, where a 1 is the least threatening, and a 6 is the worst.
Inside the Veil
In the Veil, there are many threats hidden just out of sight. Many unusual creatures of varying sizes and varying forms fill it, and are considered highly aggressive. Many people know, now, that within the Veil is an unusual, corrupting force, which assimilates creatures into an almost primal state, in which their only instincts are to convert others to the Veil's curse, or to kill. They are often categorized by the Veil crystallizing on their skin, and extending out from points, possibly even including their bones. The more crystals visible on a creature, the more far gone they are. It's been noted that different Denier levels have different effects on monsters, though it only effects the extent of the effects. At the highest level, a creature can be empowered tenfold by the latent energy in the area. In the 1st level, a mind can be effected, causing aggression and unusual tendencies, such as preferring a purple light over ordinary sunlight. This effect is called 'Melding'.   More lore can be found in the Veil Document
