Republican Guard

The Republican Guard is the federal police force of the Federal Republic, it ensures the security of citizens throughout the space of the Republic with the help of the sectorial police, except on planets where the planetary or municipal police take over. However, if the case affects more than one planet or is under federal jurisdiction, the Republican Guard automatically takes charge, making it the largest police organization in the Republic.

Structure

The leader of the Republican Guard, the Chief of the Guard, is appointed by the Secretary of Civil Security from a candidate chosen by the Office of the Federal Civil Service. All its divisions have a lieutenant general, except the Space Division which is directed by a Vice Admiral, each of them take orders from the Deputy Chief of the Guard. This one is the head of the field forces and the highest in the hierarchy. The Governmental Division thought has a more independent status to keep a distance from political power. Other services are under the authority of the Chief of the Guard, these can handle administrative matters, such as human resources, public affairs and many others. There are also more sensitive elements such as internal affairs that had an independant nomination process.

Space Division

The Space Division is responsible for patrolling and securing the interstellar space of each sector, acting as the Republic’s primary responder to crimes, emergencies, and hazards occurring beyond planetary jurisdictions. Every sector is divided into zones consisting of one or several systems, each commanded by a commodore who assigns patrol routes and personnel duties. These commodores report to a rear admiral who directs divisional operations in the sector under the authority of a vice admiral, who answers to the Deputy Chief of the Guard. The division relies on numerous capital ships capable of hosting smaller vessels led by Special Agents in Charge, while space stations commanded by Chief Special Agents serve as maintenance hubs and operational anchors. Specialized tactical teams handle boarding actions, interdictions, and information gathering in the unique conditions of zero gravity and deep space.

The Space Division has authority to intervene in any crime detected in space, including piracy, smuggling, illegal transport of restricted cargo, shipboard violence, interference with navigational beacons and trans-system criminal movements. However, its investigative authority is primarily initial and operational rather than long-term. The division conducts first-response investigations, gathers immediate evidence, stabilizes the situation, and detains suspects, but once the crime connects to a person, group, or activity that spans multiple jurisdictions or leads to a planetary nexus, the case is transferred to the Planetary Division. Only strictly space-bound crimes — such as piracy rings operating entirely in deep space, abandoned-ship incidents, crimes committed solely aboard transient vessels or violations occurring exclusively within frontier systems — remain under Space Division control from start to finish.

Sector police units assigned to space environments respond to calls and support interdiction activities under Republican Guard authority, but the Space Division focuses on enforcement, interdiction, patrol, safety, and rapid response. Long-term investigation, criminal network mapping, forensic development, and interplanetary case-building are passed to the Planetary Division. The spatial environment makes investigation particularly challenging, but the Space Division’s priority is security of transit routes, suppression of mobile criminal groups and maintenance of order across the Republic’s interstellar corridors, functioning much like a coast guard for the entire Republic.

Planetary Division

The Planetary Division is the Republic’s principal investigative body and is responsible for federal crimes committed on inhabited worlds as well as nearly all long-term investigations that originate in space but involve suspects, victims, or evidence connected to a planet. It provides advanced forensic services, electronic investigation, crime-scene scientific analysis, and interplanetary coordination through its network of commissariats and investigative offices. Its personnel consist of Junior Special Agents and Agents who begin their careers assigned to individual planets, Special Agents and Supervisory Special Agents who manage increasingly complex investigations, and Special Agents in Charge who coordinate operations under the oversight of a Chief Special Agent.

Every colonized planet has Republican Guard commissariats led by commissioners, and the totality of planetary forces is commanded by a brigadier general. This general reports to the major general responsible for the sector-wide Planetary Division, who in turn answers to the lieutenant general commanding the entire division under the Deputy Chief of the Guard. The Planetary Division’s investigative authority is extensive. It takes over nearly all long-form investigations, including organized crime, major violent offenses, trafficking networks, interplanetary criminal conspiracies, financial crime with interworld links, fugitives crossing system boundaries and any case that transitions from space to planetary jurisdiction.

Even when a crime begins in space, once suspects, victims, money, communications, or evidence are traced to a planetary location, the Planetary Division becomes the lead investigative body. Its agents coordinate with the Space Division when crimes occur aboard vessels or in transit, but follow-through, suspect interrogation, interplanetary prosecution, and case-building fall under its responsibility. Only when terrorism, espionage, or foreign state involvement is detected does the National Intelligence Agency assume authority, though the Planetary Division retains responsibility for crime-scene processing, preliminary investigations, and planetary enforcement actions. The division also includes tactical units for high-risk arrests, hostage situations, or raids, and intelligence units dedicated to mapping criminal networks, conducting surveillance, and analyzing complex interplanetary criminal behavior.

Cyber Division

The Cyber Division safeguards the Republican Space Network and investigates crimes committed through digital means across all sectors. It detects anomalies, intrusions, identity theft, scams, hate campaigns, and illicit digital activity affecting citizens, corporations, or governmental institutions. The division is commanded by a lieutenant general, supported by major generals directing sector-level operations. These sectors are further divided into areas led by brigadier generals, with each area’s branches commanded by Chief Special Agents. Investigative divisions are directed by Special Agents in Charge and subdivided into teams led by Supervisory Special Agents. Staffing varies by sector according to population size and digital traffic volume.

The Cyber Division conducts digital forensics, network surveillance, intrusion tracing, and countermeasures. It takes the lead in cases where the crime occurs principally through electronic means, such as hacking, data theft, identity manipulation, extortion conducted through digital channels, and attacks on communication infrastructures. When the digital component of a crime becomes essential to the case and extends beyond a single planet’s capacity, the Cyber Division conducts specialized investigative support while the Planetary Division remains the primary investigative authority. When foreign actors or interstellar intrusion is detected, the Cyber Division coordinates with the National Intelligence Agency or the Military Intelligence Agency depending on the nature of the threat, but retains technical investigative responsibility unless the case becomes classified as espionage or a national-security incident.

Governmental Division

The Governmental Division is responsible for investigating political crimes committed by federal officials, ensuring that the Republic’s institutions remain accountable to the law. Legislation requires that the President allocate adequate funds to prevent executive pressure, and the commanding officer must swear to operate independently during their term. The lieutenant general who leads the division is appointed by the Vice Chief of the Guard from candidates selected by the Office of the Federal Civil Service, reinforcing the division’s neutrality and independence. Each sector is managed by a major general and subdivided into areas led by brigadier generals, mirroring the Space Division’s structure.

Branches within these areas are directed by Chief Special Agents, with investigative divisions led by Special Agents in Charge, and teams under Supervisory Special Agents. Staffing levels vary based on the density of federal institutions in each area. The Governmental Division investigates corruption, abuse of power, illegal political financing, and any criminal misconduct committed by members of the executive, legislative, or judicial branches. It has exclusive jurisdiction over political crimes unless terrorism or foreign interference triggers involvement from the National Intelligence Agency. The Planetary Division may support the Governmental Division in forensic analysis, local enforcement, or evidence gathering, but investigative authority remains with the Governmental Division. Its mandate ensures that high-ranking officials remain accountable and that political institutions cannot exploit their authority or evade legal oversight.

Public Agenda

The main purpose of the Republican Guard is to serve as an efficient and versatile elite federal police able to face any type of situation, the police officers are the best trained in the Republic. It must also collaborate with many bodies to ensure the proper functioning of the judicial system such as the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic. It is in charge of representing the state during trials and of making requests on behalf of all police forces to judges.

He also works in close collaboration with the National Laboratory of Forensic Sciences responsible for the in-depth scientific analysis of evidence and especially the analysis of victim bodies in federal cases. All their work is monitored by the Republican Agency for Independent Investigations that receives complaints from citizens against federal police officers and ensures that they comply with the Republican Code of Police Ethics.

Assets

Equipments

The Republican Guard has thousands of agents across the Republic operating in various divisions of the Guard. They specialize in many areas ranging from criminal investigations, tactical intervention, intelligence or patrol. The Republican Guard also makes many vehicles available to these agents such as the A-01 helicopter, the Pegma police car, the Kestrel spacecraft and many others that are used by agents to perform their duties. Each Guard has a PR-75 handgun as well as a taser and, for tactical units, more heavy equipment in addition to their handguns.

Infrastructures

The headquarters of the Republican Guard is located in Paris near the government district, it also has many orbital stations which serve as a supply and storage point for these vessels which operate in space. Finally, it occupies many police stations in all the cities of the Republic to accommodate the personnel of it's divisions. This is without counting all the infrastructures which support the Republican Guard in its activities without these belonging to it, such as the relays of the Department of Transportation to spot suspicious vessels.
