National Intelligence Agency
Structure
Strategic Intelligence Section
The Strategic Intelligence Section forms the analytical backbone of the Republic’s intelligence capability. Its mandate is to understand the intentions, capabilities, and long-term trajectories of foreign powers across the galaxy. It studies the political, military, economic, and technological evolution of rival nations and neutral actors, providing the Republic’s leadership with insight into major developments before they become crises. This section relies on a wide range of information sources, including diplomatic exchanges, open-source analysis, intelligence-sharing with allies, and discreet monitoring of foreign activities. It focuses less on operational immediacy and more on building a comprehensive picture of galactic dynamics over years or decades. The section is composed of the Foreign Intelligence Unit, the Strategic Analysis Unit, the Military Assessment Unit and the Economic Intelligence Unit. Together, they serve as the Republic’s long-term warning system and strategic compass.
Internal Security Section
The Internal Security Section is the Republic’s shield against infiltration, espionage, subversion, and internal destabilization. It is responsible for detecting foreign intelligence networks operating inside the Republic’s borders, identifying extremist organizations, monitoring radicalization patterns, and preventing acts of terrorism before they materialize. It also maintains the integrity of federal institutions by performing sensitive background checks for some positions in the government and safeguarding the Republic’s most critical facilities and infrastructure. The section works closely with the Republican Guard, sector authorities, and planetary police forces, but retains exclusive authority over cases involving foreign governments, large-scale conspiracies, or threats to national stability. This section includes the Counter Espionage Unit, the Security and Extremism Unit, the Integrity and Vetting Unit, the Infrastructure Security Unit and the Technical Security Unit. Its culture is meticulous, cautious, and quiet—focused on eliminating threats before they become visible.
Covert Operations Section
The Covert Operations Section conducts the NIA’s most sensitive and high-risk missions. Its responsibilities include running human sources in foreign territories, conducting undercover operations, carrying out influence or disruption actions when deemed necessary, and collecting intelligence directly in hostile or inaccessible environments. This section operates alongside the Military Intelligence Agency during wartime but retains independence in political and diplomatic matters. Its personnel often work under false identities, using a wide network of safe houses, clandestine communications, and deep-cover assets to gather information or conduct missions impossible to attribute to the Republic. The section comprises the Human Intelligence Unit, the Covert Action Unit, the Foreign Collection Unit and the Rapid Operations Unit. It represents the operational arm of the NIA—the part that goes where the Republic cannot officially go and gathers information that no sensor or satellite could ever capture.
Cyber Intelligence Section
The Cyber Intelligence Section oversees the Republic’s digital and electronic security, ensuring superiority in cyberspace and in all forms of technical intelligence collection. It conducts offensive cyber operations against hostile actors, intercepts communications across interstellar distances, analyzes electronic signatures, exploits captured technology, and develops advanced AI-assisted intelligence systems. This section is highly technical, staffed by cryptologists, computer specialists, electronic warfare experts, engineers, and analysts who interpret massive data streams from sensors and deep-space arrays. It cooperates extensively with the Internal Security Section to defend the Republic’s infrastructure and with the Strategic Intelligence Section to map foreign digital capabilities. The section includes the Cyber Operations Unit, the Signals Intelligence Unit, the Technical Exploitation Unit and the Artificial Intelligence Systems Unit. It gives the NIA its unmatched reach in the digital domain.
Protection Service
The Protection Service is a special branch of the NIA with his mission being to protect members of the Republic's federal government. This includes the President, Vice-President, secretaries, heads of federal agencies, members of the judiciary, the President of the Senate and other key figures essential to the proper functioning of the federal government. A person occupying a position of responsibility can ask for protection if he considers that his life is threatened, even if his official mandate obviously concerns only the most important members of the government.
