High Dragon
Scales mottled her skin and hands, and her fingers were curved and sharp, slightly too splayed out. . . [Her gaze] contained [the] fury of the river's storms, the floods that killed, the cold that froze bones until they shattered.
-Aliette de Bodard, In The Vanishers' Palace
There are many types of dragons endemic to Southreach, but it is the smaller high dragons that interact the most with humans. Indeed, many high dragons have integrated completely into human society, weaving illusions to appear in human form.
Wild dragons are guardians of important places: mountains, rivers, volcanoes, etc. Their forms reflect that, and high dragons have mostly kept their forms intact. There are four rough classifications for High Dragons: Earth Dragons, Fire Dragons, Sky Dragons, and Water Dragons.
