Northern Nation

  Abstract: Magical center of the world. Flying cities, magical girls, boys (and every other gender), and Plasmatech inventors flock here for study. Lots of observatories and mining operations also exist here, very resource rich land but usually contract out all the work.  

The most magical place in the world!

 

Everything's rainbows and butterflies up in Northern, only semi-literally. There ARE an oddly high amount of rainbows present. This, however, is due to the magical fountains sprawled throughout the country.

 

Magical Fountains

  No one truly knows why prismatic magical fountains are found across the North, these concentrations of magic are found practically no where else on the planet but provide an abundent resource for spellcasters and Plasmatech creators alike. As such wherever a prismatic fountain has appeared a town or city has cropped up around it.   Typically the first to arrive are researchers, schools, or companies that buy the land and build around the fountain. From there a town is born as houses are needed to bunk the workers, opportunists see them needing good food and open restaurants, and so on.   It is very rare a fountain has ever been destroyed or stopped working.  

Home to Magical Talent

  Where as Eastern tends to be the home of the most creative minds, Northern tends to produce the most powerful spellcasters of all nations. There are a myriad of prestigious universities and colleges to choose from each with their own specialities and proffesionals in the field. If you can think of it, you can find it. Whether it's offensive spellcasting or learning agricultural practices enhanced by magic it's here.   It's common for citizens of other nations to Northern just for schooling. Tutions are higher for other nations, however there has been a notable push and huge scholarships for those who agree, contract and all, to become citizens of Northern during their schooling. So far it's been an effective way of poaching talent to stay and work.   Some notable graduates include:

Law and Order

  Northern's biggest strength is in its intelligence operations. They lack a large standing military and instead opt for something more akin to a survellience state. With so many powerful magical users the government has developed a myriad of ways to make sure illegal practices don't go unnoticed by them, and from there special operation teams are deployed.  

M.I.A.

"See. Hear. Communicate." - M.I.A. motto

  Codenamed the MIA, the Magical Intelligence Agency is the main law enforcement and military operation head of the nation. Almost all orders to local law enforcement groups come from the M.I.A. and as such many rumors have circulated about their true intentions and their level of power.   It's become something of a running joke amongst Eastern to say that "Mia is always watching" and others speculate if M.I.A. is the true reason behind the Stardrop families long-line of presidential successors.   Currently the agency works on lifetime appointments. Something that's been considered an oversight given the nature of the current director, Levaugn Lester, is an Automaton.  

Local Law Enforcement

  Law enforcement at the local level is done through the L.M.P.S. or Local Magical Protection Services. Occasionally there will be independent security groups and vigilantes but these are less common due to M.I.A. interference.   If you require help from your LMPS officer just look for your nearest Shine Brite(tm) patrol car or easily identifiable officer by their Shine Brite(tm) Rainbow Shimmer Badges!    

Government, Cities, and the Rulers

 

"The people love the Stardrops. So much so that we may as well call them Kings and Queens rather than 'Presidents' as they haven't had anyone run against them in decades."

  At its heart Northern is a representative democracy, however in recent years the government has begun to stagnate. More and more of the various Zones have been voting the same people in time and time again. With no term limits in place, the only thing that's been causing any changes have been those retiring from old age.   Most citizens are happy with this arrangement as they enjoy the people in charge, but some at a small level talk and spread rumors about how odd it is and question if the M.I.A. or another nation has a hand in this.   By all intents and purposes the Stardrop family is a wonderful family, but they don't match the usual idea of a President. They make many public appearences, are overall quite eccentric, and generally are very charismatic with a dash of rainbow sparkles.   A house of representatives and senate both have had a majority vote in the same party for years. Each Zone in Northern gets one representative per 300,000 people and 1 senate seat.

Capital: Aurora

  Aurora has been the capital of Northern since its founding, having been constructed around one of the largest magical fountains of the entire nation. It is found far to the north, built against the base of a mountain.
