Arin Voss
Lieutenant Commander Arin Voss (a.k.a. Latch)
Growing up on a small backwater world, there wasn't much for Arin to do on his homeworld other than following in the footsteps of his parents, but that wasn't the dream for Arin, and when he was old enough, he signed up for the Imperial Navy. His first posting after training was on board an old carrier, full of poor maintenance, bad command decisions, and he learned early that procedures existed because space doesn't forgive mistakes.
Arin is known for being calm to the point that it's unsettling for some people, and during operations, he rarely speaks more than is required, instead giving out clipped, precise commands. Even when things go wrong, he does not raise his voice.
When off duty, he reveals more of his personality, often being dryly sarcastic and unexpectedly gentle for someone known to have stared down an admiral when this one intruded on Arin's flight deck. He is especially gentle with junior deckhands and officers, knowing how it can be working on one's first ship. Arin is known to sit silently beside someone who just lost a wingman, saying nothing, just being there, sipping on a glass of water, instead of offering platitudes that the pilot will have heard a millon times already.
Appearance
Arin Voss is lean built, with muscle built for endurance rather than mass. Arin keeps his hair cut short, regulation-tight, and his eyes have that permanent red-veined fatigue of someone whose sleep cycle is based on launch windows rather than the circadian rhythm. The faint sign of a scar runs from his right ear down towards his jaw, a scar he earned during a decompression incident back when he was just a recruit.Role & Responsibilities
As a Flight Operations Officer, Arin is responsible for coordinating all launch and recovery cycles onboard the carrier, making sure that conflicts during fighter trafic is handled during engagements. Likewise, is he going to synchronize hangar crews, deck chiefs, and pilots, and he have the final say should a fighter come in hot with extensive damage.“If Latch says you’re clear, you’re clear.”- Pilots onboard ESS Sacolea
Relationship with Command
Arin tends to keep things professional and distant with most senior officers, but has a good working relationship with the captain onboard the ESS Sacolea ship and likewise with the XO, although the XO and Arin sometimes have frictions over sortie tempo vs. crew exhaustion.Reputation Onboard
The pilots onboard ESS Sacolea trust him implicitly, and if he says something is alright or they have to do something, they believe him. Engineers respect him because he never expects the impossible, although he might set some harsh deadlines for when he expects a fighter to be repaired and returned to action status. Its unknown if true but among the deckhands onboard the carrier, there is a rumour that Arin once aborted a launch that some high ranking officer had ordered because Arin noticed that a deckhands magnetic boots had failed, its unknown what happened following the order to abort launch by Arin but its said that after he was called to the commanding officers office, loud shouting count be heard, the only thing thats known is that Arin left the office knowing that he had saved the deckhands life.

Before engagements, Arin taps the frame of the hangar observation window twice. Once for the ship and another for those pilots who won't come back.
Earned his callsign after the latch that kept him in his flight seat onboard his fighter broke and gave him his scar.

He sounds like a great person to have as your superior in a bad situation. I like him.
