445th Fighter Wing - Snowbirds
The 445th Fighter Wing is a Empire of Earth Navy fighter wing attached to the carrier ESS Mercury. The Fighter Wing is currently operating the latest version of the F-23 Nightingale and is one of the few in the Navy to consist entirely of F-23, with most of the other Fighter Wings operating a mixture of vehicles.
The Figther Wings have, among the other Fighter Wings of the Navy, become known as the "Snowbirds" due to their propensity of long-range patrols and having served in most sectors of human space. Due to a cleical mistake, during the Fighter Wings service in the in Felix system, the 445th was listed as "445th Snowbirds" but Navy pilots being slightly supersticious, they decided to keep the name and thus the unofficial nickname became the official name of the Fighter Wing and within a week of the decision, all fighters carried a small white bird on their hull.
Mission
The main mission of the 445th is to conduct warfare operations and assist in the planning, control, coordination, and integration of its 8 squadrons in the support of carrier warfare, warfare that includes interception, destruction of enemy fighters and missiles, to establish and maintain superiority in the area of operations.History
Established shortly before the commission of its home carrier, the 445th would spend the first few months training and establishing a working relationship with the carrier.
Over the years, the 445th has operated in most sectors of the empire, with missions mainly consisting of border patrols as well as a few humanitarian relief missions when the carrier and the group it was attached to were called to provide help to several planets after disasters had struck.
