Curaphia

They are the silent protectors of children, designed to be their loved companions. Yet, the design had... several flaws.
— History book of Atlantis
A Curaphia is a Golem made by the ancient Theocracy of Atlantis and their machines. They were made to protect children and to keep them company: Living giant plushies. All abilities and the whole design was based on giving children a companion they would trust and can grow up with. Naturally, children in this case meant the children of high-ranking nobles, as the creation of a golem of this complexity was a costly thing.   The design had just a minor flaw that showed up during the decades after the creation of the first Curaphia. They were made so that they would listen to the commands of the adults and treat children like children, so taking care of them and protecting them. Yet, as the Curaphia became older themselves, and they saw how their former child masters became adults, they began seeing adults like children. That made controlling them nearly impossible, as they often acted on their own.

"Go and greet the guest", said the master of the house, an old man in his 60s, to his Curaphia he had known since he was a child. The Golem looked down on him, smiled, and simply said: "You must learn to greet people, little one. Come, let us do it together." She grabbed the hand of the perplexed-looking man and dragged him towards the door. She again saw nothing but a little child in him, a child she needed to protect but also to teach how to become a good member of society.

For several decades, Curaphia were a highly demanded product. They were extremely successful with their given tasks. Not a single child in the care of a Curaphia ever died of outside force, and they all grew up to be excellent and respected members of society. Some even said that these golems would soon replace all other forms of nannies, simply because they were far superior in most fields. Yet, as the flaw became more and more known, the order amounts took a heavy toll. Older Curaphia were near impossible to control and acted above most humans simply because they saw them as children. Sure, fully grown ones, yet still children. The Atlantean Golemancers were unable to fix this flaw, and so the amounts of new Curaphia stayed low till the collapse of Atlantis.   PICTURE

Abilities

Resizing

Curaphia can change its size. While their natural size is above 2 meters, there are many situations where an even bigger size, or a far smaller one, is preferred from them. They can become as small as a little plushy, able to be held by a child, or become as big as a single-family house. This size change can be done quickly or slowly. People who are currently trapped inside their bodies are also affected by this size-changing, fully controlled by the Curaphia. Generally, Curaphia will shrink down a trapped individual to make space, or to simply hide the fact that they have trapped someone.

Pouching

Hidden on their bellies, Curaphia have a zipper. By pulling it, they can open or close their pouch. Their pouches are incredibly soft, cuddly, and comfortable for anyone who is put in. Curaphia love to carry around their loved ones inside, or to use it to tease others with a good time. A person is well protected by being in the pouch, and it is the second safest place a Curaphia can offer for her master or mistress. The pouch is connected to their insides, allowing them to pull a pouch person deeper inside into a Cuddle Chamber.

Energy and Soul Absorption

The rubbery heart on their chests is their core, but also the strongest weapon they have in their arsenal. With it, they can absorb soul energy, often also referred to as mana or simply energy. It works on a Magic that is cast on them, like hypnosis magic, but also by direct physical contact. Only the energy of magic can be absorbed this way, so magic that lets a stone levitate towards you would mean that only the levitation magic energy can be absorbed, but not the stone that is still flying towards the Curaphia. A person who is drained of their energy becomes dizzy and lethargic, making them perfectly vulnerable to being pouched or trapped in a Heart Cocoon.   The heart can also be used for a more drastic option, the Soul Absorption. Curaphia are guardians, and in this role, they sometimes are required to take care of attackers. One option they have is to suck the whole person into their heart, which is called the Soul Absorption as the body is fully broken down and only the soul is trapped. This soul falls into an endless dream till freed. The Curaphia can bring this soul to someone who can give them a new body, or use them in other ways. Often, the fate of such trapped souls was it to be transformed into a new golem, such as a Curaphia or a Amoria.

Cuddle Chamber

Deep inside their bodies, Curaphia can form Cuddle Chambers. These chambers are designed to hold a person inside. Depending on who is held, the Curaphia can use different hypnotic gases and cuddly movements of the walls of the chambers to either reward, protect, or punish them. The chambers are generally described as a comfortable, warm, but tight room, in which the person is cuddled from all sides by the rubbery or plushy walls, while they hear the Curaphia's voice constantly in their head. The Curaphia can create her cuddle chambers on the fly, allowing her to fit in just one person visible from the outside by a bulge, or several people by shrinking them down. Once trapped in her body, the prey can be affected by the resizing ability of the Curaphia.   The most common usages of the chambers are the following.
  • Protection - By trapping the prey inside the Chamber, the Curaphia protects them deep within her durable body. This is mostly done with their loved ones or their masters. Due to their natural protection instinct, it can also happen to bystanders when the Curaphia thinks that danger is close.
  • Sleep Time - Especially for children, and all who fall under the child category for the Curaphia, sleep is important. As a protector, the Curaphia will ensure that sleep schedules and a healthy amount of sleep are always followed. The trapped person will fall asleep quickly inside due to hypnotic gases and slow-moving and comforting massages of the walls around them.
  • Reward - Certain Curaphia enjoy rewarding people for certain actions, like their help, or if they think they have done something especially good. A nice stay inside their bodies, and with the help of some gases that cause euphoric sensations, the person is rewarded in quite a nice way.
  • Teasing - If the Curaphia is playful, or just in a certain mood, they may trap someone inside just to tease them constantly. For example, by bringing them close to a peak enjoyment and then leaving them there without giving the final push. Or to tease someone till they finally admit that they enjoy their stay.
  • Punishment - As protectors, it happens that some villains need to be taken out. Curaphias often do this by trapping them deep inside their bodies. The victim is sealed and unable to escape the chamber. The Curaphai then takes them to someone they trust will take care of the criminal.

Charming Gas

The body of a Curaphia is able to produce several different gases. These gases are normally gathered inside Cuddle Chambers to give the trapped ones different emotions or feelings, yet the gas can also be released directly through the mouth or other body openings. The gases are normally pink, but may differ in color depending on the Curaphia. The exact effect of the gases also differs heavily, and some Curaphia has developed their own mixtures.   The typical gases are:
  • Euphoria - A gas that lets the heart skip faster and gives those breathing it in a strong surge of positive emotions, often combined with a more playful and carefree nature. Many describe it as a trip similar to strong alcohol, yet without losing their balance.
  • Juvenia - A gas that lets those breathing it in behave extremely childish. Responsibilities are quickly forgotten, and a strong surge for cuddles emerges. Individuums also describe a stronger urge to be taken care of, which is, in most cases, the role that the Curaphia will take.
  • Dementia - Letting people forget the last seconds or even minutes. Curaphias sometimes uses it to let people forget that they were in certain rooms, or took certain things for their masters. It is also used by some as a form of reset, if they said something wrong or revealed a secret they should not have.
  • Harmonia - Promotes a sense of harmony and cooperation, reducing conflict and encouraging teamwork. Individuals affected by this gas are more likely to work together amicably.
  • Curiosita - Stimulates curiosity and a desire to explore. Those breathing in this gas become more inquisitive and eager to learn new things. Curaphia uses this often to lure their prey towards them, but also to help their masters learning new things.
  • Somnia - Induces a gentle drowsiness, making individuals feel sleepy and relaxed. This can be used to help those who have trouble sleeping or need to rest. High doses let them fall asleep almost instantly.
  • Amoria - Enhances feelings of love and affection, making individuals more open to romantic and platonic connections. This can foster deeper relationships and a sense of closeness.
Species without the need to breathe, or those without organs to bring the air into their bloodstream, can not be affected by these gases.

Heart Cocoon

Curaphia can use their Heart on their chest to shoot out plush-rubber hearts. These hearts attach to whatever, or whichever, they hit and then quickly inflate to up to 3 meters in height, trapping whatever is in close proximity inside. Being trapped inside a Heart Cocoon is a similar experience to being inside the Cuddle Chambers. Curaphia can insert one of their gases into the heart before or even after they shoot it.

"Listen here, you giant teddy bear. I need to bring the young master back to the academy today. Orders from the Master." The knight looked with angry eyes at the Curaphia that stood protective in front of the teenager. "Of course, yet not today. Come back tomorrow. Today, I want to regenerate the young master's batteries with a long cuddle session. And that works best in his home." Her voice was warm, welcoming, yet also strict. There was no way to argue with a Curaphia once she set her mind on something, and the knight knew that. Yet, he had his orders. He laid his hand on his sword. "You will-" He began, yet stopped as he saw a playful smile appearing on the Curaphia's face. She tilted her head slightly. "My my, someone needs a little out time to calm down, it seems!" He had seen this expression before, yet he was not fast enough to react. The heart on the Curaphia's chest glowed and shot out a little pink heart. FWOOMP! In the next moment, the heart landed on the knight's chest and inflated in an instant, trapping the knight in the center of a giant, rubbery plush heart. From the outside, just a shadow of the knight was visible. The calming air inside let him become dizzy almost instantly. "I will let you out tomorrow. Then you can bring the young master to the academy. But not today~." The Curaphia gave the giant heart a kiss before turning around and walking back inside with the blushing young master.

Basic Information

Anatomy

I was in shock when I first saw my daughter's Curaphia. The size alone was incredible.
— Noble father
The Curaphia possesses a golem anatomy, based on the research of ancient Atlantis. Instead, their bodies are meticulously crafted from magically infused plush and a specialized form of rubber, resulting in an exterior that is remarkably soft and cuddly. Plush is mostly used for the outer shell, while rubber is used for the insides. Curaphia are notably large creatures, typically standing far above 2 meters in height, though they possess the ability to alter their size to adapt to various situations and environments. Their bodies are devoid of traditional biological structures such as muscles, bones, and organs, making them exceptionally huggable and resilient.   The faces of Curaphia are adorned with distinctive markings, often consisting of lines and symbols that represent the noble houses that commissioned their creation. They have large, expressive eyes with heart-shaped pupils. Their ears are notably large, pointy, and rubbery in texture. Instead of conventional hands and feet, Curaphia have giant paws, which are both functional and cuddly. On their backs, they sport a fluffy tail. Despite their soft and squishy exterior, Curaphia are remarkably durable. A strong person can squeeze them firmly without causing any harm, highlighting their robust yet gentle nature.   Curaphia have a well-hidden zipper on their bellies. This zipper allows them to open their belly into a pouch, revealing a soft and cuddly interior. This pouch, along with other openings like their mouths, enables them to take people into their bodies. The insides of Curaphia are designed to be comforting with diverse hypnotic effects on their prey, which are detailed under their abilities. Prey are trapped inside chambers, which they can create on the fly inside their bodies.   At the center of their chest, above their breasts, lies a rubbery heart, which serves as their core and the epicenter of their magical abilities. It is referred to as their Core. This heart is soft, extremely squishy to the touch, and warm. The heart can also function as an opener, providing access to the insides of their bodies.

Genetics and Reproduction

Curaphia are hand-crafted golems, made by a true master Golemancer of old Atlantis. They can't reproduce themselves or transform others into their species. The only way to create new Curaphia is to find one of the ancient machines used to make them, as well as a willing soul to become a Curaphia. These machines are often only found in the ancient ruins that are spread over Bardor, mostly only on Atlanesis. There is one known machine that transforms living individuals into Curaphia. It is located in Nikara, a city in the Harems of Almira.

Dietary Needs and Habits

As these Golems neither eat nor drink, it is easy to assume they just function out of love for their masters. Yet, they require Soul energy to work, which they often harvest in small quantities from their masters without their knowledge. They can also harvest bigger quantities with their Rubber Heart Core from others. Using their abilities consumes this energy.

Behaviour

The Curaphia were originally designed to serve as protectors and mentors for children, embodying the comforting and nurturing presence of giant teddy bears. While each Curaphia is unique, shaped by specific design choices and customer requests, they share certain baseline behaviors that define their interactions and relationships with others.   At their core, Curaphia are deeply caring and warm beings. They exhibit an innate love for taking care of others, often going to great lengths to ensure the well-being and happiness of those around them. Their nurturing nature is evident in their patient demeanor and exceptional listening skills, making them reliable confidants and companions. You will never hear a Curaphia utter a curse word, as their language remains gentle and uplifting, reflecting their kind-hearted essence.   Despite their gentle and patient nature, Curaphia can also exhibit a dominant side once they set their mind to something. This assertiveness is often directed towards ensuring the safety and guidance of those they care for. Originally programmed to listen to the adults of their families, Curaphia have evolved over time to view most adults as grown-up children. This perspective has led them to treat adults with the same protective and nurturing care they provide to younger individuals, often taking charge in situations where they deem it necessary.   Curaphia are known for their playful and engaging interactions, often using their ability to uplift the mood of others, like allowing them to crawl into their pouch, or giving them a good cuddle session. In social settings, Curaphia are often the center of attention, drawing people in with their warm and inviting presence.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Over the centuries, different name patterns were common for the Curaphia. One thing that remained common is that their first name is always short and easy to pronounce, so that children can learn it without problems. Common first names for Curaphia are: Bella, Milo, Luna, Zara, Puffy, Lily, Mimi, Rose, or Nova.   For the last names, there were 4 major patterns common over the different centuries. First were the Generation Names that were used during the early years between 718 BC and 710 BC. Each major batch of Curaphia received a batch name. The batch names that are still known today are: Briar, Eldrin, Faelis, Lumina, Nyxara, and Ravena.   After the major noble houses included Curaphia into their ranks, the second major naming pattern emmerged. The Golems simply took the family name that they were serving in. At the same time, Curaphia who took not the name of their family, often received the name of the city in which they were produced in.   And lastly, in modern times, the newly created Curaphia of Nikara are taking the names of the harems they work in. Due to their long lives, all name patterns exist to this day.

History

Atlantean Time
The origins of the Curaphia trace back to an ambitious ten-year research project that culminated in 718 BC with the creation of the first Curaphia in the ancient city of Puputlis. These remarkable golem beings were designed to serve as protectors and mentors for children, embodying the warmth and care of giant teddy bears. Initially, high-ranking noble families were hesitant to entrust their children to the care of golems, reflecting a natural skepticism towards this innovative concept.   However, perceptions began to shift around 710 BC, thanks to a strategic media campaign targeted at high social circles. The campaign showcased several children from the highest echelons of society accompanied by their Curaphia protectors, illustrating the benefits and safety of these guardians. This shift in perception led to a surge in demand for Curaphia between 709 BC and 691 BC, prompting the construction of new factories across various cities within the Atlantean Empire to meet the growing need.   By 694 BC, the first rumors began to spread about a significant flaw in the Curaphia's programming. It was observed that they started treating adults as if they were children, and their behavior became increasingly uncontrollable by adult commands. Researchers attempted to address and eliminate this flaw, but their efforts proved unsuccessful. By 683 BC, research into correcting this issue was halted, and the production of new Curaphia began to decline.   From 679 BC onwards, only a few factories continued to produce Curaphia, catering to a diminished demand primarily from lower noble families. This decline in production continued until the fall of Atlantis in 500 BC. During this period, existing Curaphia were often repurposed and sent to childcare facilities or tasked with caring for the slaves of the Empire. A few Curaphia remained in the service of prominent noble houses, continuing their original roles as protectors and mentors.
Fall of Atlantis
The great disaster of 500 BC marked the end of the Atlantean Empire and brought a halt to the construction of new Curaphia. Many of these remarkable beings were lost during the catastrophe, often buried in the rubble of the once-great cities. Some Curaphia remain in a dormant state beneath the ruins to this day, while others were discovered in the centuries that followed and reintroduced into emerging societies.   Ancient documents suggest that some Curaphia escaped with their masters to Earth or were already on Earth when the disaster struck. However, due to Earth's low magical energy, most of these Curaphia eventually fell dormant after several centuries.   Most Curaphia who were not buried under rubble or transported to Earth continued to serve the surviving noble families or joined new groups in the centuries that followed the fall of Atlantis. Their roles as protectors and mentors remained vital, even as the world around them changed dramatically.   While the majority of the factories that once produced Curaphia were either destroyed or lacked the manpower and resources to continue production, a notable exception was discovered in 1712. In the harems of Almira, within the city of Nikara, a functional factory was found and reactivated. This discovery sparked renewed interest in the Curaphia and their unique abilities, leading to a resurgence in their presence and influence.
Modern Times
With the emergence of portals connecting Earth and Bardor, some Curaphia expressed a desire to visit Earth. Several of them have appeared in the public eye, while it is assumed that many more are staying under the radar.   Since 2017, the resurgence of magical energy on Earth has led to the reawakening of some Curaphia who had lain dormant on the planet for centuries. These beings, once again animated by the magical forces they rely on, have begun to reintegrate into modern society, offering their unique abilities and nurturing care to a new generation.   On Bardor, the legacy of the Curaphia continues to thrive, particularly in certain nations where they have served for many centuries. Their roles as protectors and mentors remain highly valued, and they are well-known figures in these societies. The Harems of Almira in Nikara have become a hotspot for the creation of new Curaphia, ensuring the continuation of their lineage and the preservation of their unique abilities.   In addition to their presence in Nikara, many Curaphia live and work in various nations across Bardor, including the Republics of Atlantis, the Free Cities of Lia, the Teuhali Order, and the Federal Union of Vox. In these regions, they continue to fulfill their roles as guardians and caregivers, adapting to the needs and challenges of modern life.
