The Mad Mage of Dimcolt

People in the area surrounding Dimcolt have a story of the old advisor of the Duke of Dimcolt, no one knows exactly which duke the he served as the story changes based on who you ask, so say it was only a generation or so ago and others say it was a thousand years.   SUMMARY: The mad mage tried to sacrifice the family of the duke for more power during one of their holidays to the mountains. The Mage kidnapped the family apart from the duchess, he took them into his lab in the hills near the mansion and killed them starting with the Duke. The duchess who was said to have escaped the monsters through the use of a magic ring that rendered her invisible escaped walked for days whilst perused by monsters summoned from other realms by the Mage. She evaded them and got help from the city. The monsters of the mage terrorized the lands around the Dimcolt mountains until they banded together and fought back.   Eventually the army rallied and stormed the lab of the Mage. They even got help from some of the monsters that were summoned. The army had to fight its way through many fiendish traps and many died Once broken free of the mages influence, if not too harmed they could be reasoned with and some even led the way to the mage himself where he was said to be killed. Although sources differ on whether the mage died or simply teleported away. (Research indicates that the same mage may have been active across the country, especially around the Allowin heights ) The army summoned the mage school from Radolaer to help their cause, these mages were adept in force magic and were particularly effective against the monsters   The people of the are still place worked stone sigils around their houses and villages that they say protect from the monsters who burrow through the rock or fly through the air.
