Twin Lovil

God of Order, Justice and Travel

Origins

"Born of the arcane, defender of it" is a common quote offered to those asking where the Twins came from. It is said that a powerful wizard had created a partner to roam the roads with him and keep him safe from the physical threats of the world so that he could study the world. This wizard, unnamed by the myths, was totally peaceful and refused to hurt the ticks he acquired in the swamps, the wolves that threatened him in the forests, or the bandits that would take any coin he had. So devoted to peace, this wizard made his companion to be as intimating as possible, and would never request his defender seriously hurt or kill his accosters. He wandered the land, some say with a massive man made of metal, and others say with a fire-breathing ox covered in eyes. One fateful day, members of a now-forgotten cult who believed his study of the world harmed their cause, would find and kill him in cold blood, and leave his body on the side of the road, and capture his protector.   The myth then splits, causing minor arguments within the Twin's followers. Some claim that The All Mother, so sickened by his killing, allowed him to rise again, taking his blood and turning it divine, spawning and then raising the two boys that would later become Twin Aris and Twin Lovil. Others say that when the wizard died, he muttered one last spell, or perhaps prayer, for his work to continue even past his death, and the power of his words created the Twins.   In either case, it's clear to a follower of either or both Twins, that those that seek to learn about the world around them and those that travel to do so, are doing his work by simply living their life. Even if one is not travelling with the purpose of learning or sharing knowledge, it's said that the Twins will look over them, as simply seeing new places, meeting new people, and engaging with places you've never been before makes you a scholar in some respect.

Places of Worship

Twin Aris and Twin Lovil's temples are always one and the same, despite their separate domains. With many seeing them as the same entity, both of their symbols are interlaced on tapestry and rugs that line the pew-laden main hall, all looking at a pulpit where his priests may spread doctrine. Their temples are typically built like gothic cathedrals, with large spires and decorations of notable saints, followers, and oftentimes art in the form of angelic or divine beings.

Followers

Followers of Twin Lovil are more commonly seen across Sinstram then those of Twin Aris, as his edicts and domains are considered more "Universal". As such, he has a much larger following, typically being merchants, adventurers, lawmen, and others that often find themselves leaving their hometowns. As so many of these followers exist, only the most loyal, giving, and honest of them may be granted powers to both help themselves wander the world, or help others travel safely. It is considered a boon and a ward against evil to simply have a cleric, priest or paladin travelling with you, and oftentimes, proves to be. As a result, devout followers of Twin Lovil are often offered free food and shelter in many places, as their presence alone is said to ward off "trouble."
