Timanduk Current Status
Current Status
Timanduk is experiencing a slight drought which may lead to crisis in the island's food supply. Depending on the severity, supplies may be needed from outside the island, as even the fertile soils of the ashen plains have been unable to produce enough crops with the water available.
Kaylahon is as bustling as ever, with representation from all over the islands AND all factions present.
The government of Timanduk has heard emissaries from each of the factions and continues to ponder is position within the larger conflict, electing for now to remain neutral.
The Datu of Nadasaloy has recently been slain and replaced by Datu Kasunod. It is unclear how this new Datu will differ from the rule of his father, who was known to be greedy and ambitious.
The Spirits of Nulkab and Tulaylupa are both in harmony with each other and the people of the island.
Map of Timanduk
Background
They say Timanduk's city of Kaylahon has a piece of all of the Islands of Sina Una, and this is absolutely true! Under tree canopies which line the city streets is a bustling metropolis set precariously on low ground between the western bay of Tulaylupa and the shadow of the monolithic volcano Nulkab.
The docks at Kaylahon bring the bounties of the other islands into the city.
It was Babaylon Kaylahon herself, for whom the city is named, who negotiated the lasting peace between the spirits of nature. And in this peace there is bounty, as the waters to the west bring trade and the volcanic ash brings fertile soil to the people of Timanduk.
Kaylahon has many districts along the bay, ranging from residential to commercial. Pictured here is the Castle Paro Paro in the Great Garden
But bounty exists only as long as harmony is maintained, and what is currently a source of gifts could easily turn to a curse should the people earn the ire of the spirits surrounding them. Warnings of floodwaters and lava flows pass from old to young for what awaits if the tranquility of Timanduk is disturbed. This has led to a cultural distaste for staking a strong position in political matters, including the current expansion of Colony occupation of Northern Islands. Timanduk also has a high degree of self sufficiency due to the extent of agricultural infrastructure on the island present in the Ashen fields.
The Ashen Fields supply food beyond just the people of Timanduk.
However, a historical rivalry exists between the river town of Nadasaloy on the north side of the island and the city of Kaylahon. Although trade between the settlements sustains Nadasaloy, the desire to capture a greater importance as an economic center of the islands equal to exceeding Kaylahon sometimes leads to tensions and conflict between the leadership of the two towns. Nadasaloy owes its livelihood to the sparkling pool which rests in the shadow of Nulkab. The water filtered by lava rock and volcanic ash is the purest in the islands, and is the base ingredient of high quality potions, dyes, inks, as well as in cooking.
Nadasaloy has the purest waters in the islands--to which the settlement owes its livelihood.
Faction Control
Timanduk is currently Neutral Territory.
Diplomacy
Puthawanan and Nasiraknan Colony Emissaries are present in Kaylahon promoting trade with the Colony, expansion of the religion of the Holy Trinity (allowed by the Timanduk leadership), and pressuring Timanduk to side with the Colony. They are secretly trying to assassinate any known members of the Kotabalon Agents.
Kotabalon Agents are present in Kaylahon to recruit warriors of all stripes for combat in Kotabalon, to organize the Free Islands Alliance members to more quickly mobilize, to seek assistance economically, and to pressure Timanduk to side with Kotabalon. They are secretly trying to assassinate any known members of the Colony Emissaries.
The Free Islands Representatives are in Kaylahon and are seeking volunteers to join their forces as they prepare on their respective islands for conflict, as well as seeking economic assistance
The Pirates frequently sail into less major docks in unmarked ships to offload captured goods to fences that populate some of the outskirts of Lower Kaylahon. To avoid losing their biggest market they typically avoid hitting targets within sight of the island's settlements.
Key Figures
Rajah Humabon - Rajah Humabon presides over the entirety of Kaylahon, chosen to govern the growing island metropolis by both the other datus of the city as well as Kaylahon herself. His family lays claim to the rice terraces that populate the side of Nulkab, and their farms provide the majority of tithings to the volcano spirit. Rajah Humabon is often silent and reclusive, spending long hours in study. His governance has been a short one—as a balat-kayo, his existence is relatively new compared to most mortal races. (SI 53)
Babaylan Kaylahon - Though the founder of the grand metropolis, the babaylan Kaylahon spends little time within the city bounds, instead choosing to travel and learn all she can about the rest of the islands. But in matters of great importance, Rajah Humabon will still seek her wisdom and guidance (53).
The Datus of Kaylahon - Unlike smaller settlements, Kaylahon hosts a council of datus who each preside over their own neighborhood of the city. These datus still serve the Rajah, however assisting him in all matters of state. Additionally, each datu in Kaylahon has a contingent of warriors pledged to them. Known as timawas, these individuals serve as facilitators between the datu and their people. (53). The Neighborhoods and their Datus are as follows:
- Mahalaga - Datu Habalo
- The Cove - Datu
- The Great Garden - Datu
- Orzala Point - Datu
Sugbo - A resourceful and cunning tiefling with deer horns, Sugbo serves as the leader of Ashen Fields’ warriors. Often seen wearing his braided abaca barote and carrying an ornately decorated kalasag, he is responsible for training and mobilizing local warriors to patrol fields, safeguard food stores, and escort traveling diplomats and traders. (56)
Datu Kasunod - The current chieftain of the Nadasaloy polity, a human datu named Kasunod, is the fourth descendant of the original settlers of Nadasaloy. After slaying his father, a greedy ruler who perverted the village’s trade for his own benefit, Datu Kasunod wears a magalong: a red crown of cloth indicating his bravery and ferocity.
Binibining Diray-Diray - Binibining Diray-Diray is the wife of Datu Kasunod, and serves as the village’s master of commerce and trade. While Datu Kasunod makes sure that raiders from pirates cannot overwhelm Nadasaloy, she ensures that trade flows to and from Kaylahon, and thus enriches her entire village.
