Production and Natural Resources

Small Scale Industry

Prior to the arrival of the Colony, each Island was distinctly known for specific raw materials and the products that resulted from their refinement. It is important to note that the use of these naturally occurring materials was done as a practice of exchange with the related spirits of nature. The major materials and refined or manufactured products are listed per island below:

Adwaladto

Adwaladto is known for its unique flora, which is often the subject of ingredient hunts. Depending on the material used any number of concoctions are possible, ranging from potent medicines to deadly poisons. Additionally several edible plants exist on the island, however they typically have poisonous components requiring those seeking to use them as ingredients to trim and cut them to an almost surgical degree. Typically plant hunters will base out of Linawan where they will pick up jobs and orders. The raw plant materials are then generally shipped to Tasulog, a floating island off the coast, where they are processed by skilled alchemists and healers into their refined or finished state. The lake settlement of Badbaran, in the center of the island, is economically self sufficient and borders on isolationist. In this dangerous center of the island, the rarest plants can be found; not unsurprisingly, the island's most potent poisons bear evidence of originating from here as well.

Kandaya

Set in the middle of the archipelago, many of Kandaya's settlements are famous for their exports to other islands as they are so often used in every day life. Sininga's textiles are shipped to Kaylahon's garment district to form most of the higher end clothing, in addition to producing magical dyes which are often used to color the cloth of wizards and the like. Hanapin's salt farms produce salt bags for hunters throughout the island which are the bane of Aswang and a necessary supply for these adventurers. Most notably, the lumber from mangrove trees in Pahinga is reputed to be magical and used in all kinds of construction, but namely in ship construction. The Panday shipbuilders of Kandaya are considered to be the finest in the islands, although production of these ships is often outsourced due to Pahinga not being accessible by large watercraft.

Kotabalon

The island of Kotabalon has never been highly integrated into the economy of the rest of the islands, largely because the majority of its population are Umalagad Dragonborn who maintain self sufficiency in their second lives. The one notable exception to this is that Kotabalon is rich in obsidian due to the rapid expansion of the island as a result of the ancient eruptions of The Pit. This obsidian is mined and shaped into razor sharp fragments which form the basis of a weaponry unique to the Islands. The vicious edge of these weapons is the preferred choice of those hunting beasts or fighting lightly armored opponents, however they are more fragile against sturdier materials.

Nasirakna

Nasirakna is a haven for all kinds of fish, which populate its brackish bays where seawater mixes with the outflowing interior channels. The lakes contained within the island give plenty of habitat for freshwater creatures, while the enormous reefs to the south provide habitats for saltwater fish. This reef also provides coral, which is sometimes used to craft specialty hunting weapons imbued with natural salt--a favorite of dedicated Aswang hunters. The interior of the island contains many fantastic beasts, which have adapted to the varied terrain to grow thicker pelts as protection. Thus, the skins hunted from these animals which make it to the floating city of Sangdaangalon are crafted into the finest leathers, for use in medium armors.

Puthawanan

The image of iron is evoked by the mere mention of Puthawanan, as it is not only the largest source of the otherwise rare mineral, but the quality of the mined ore exceeds that of anywhere else in the Islands. Mines dot the foothills west of Arimaonga's Ridge, with entrances to the mines also being a major of the mountain city Himpapawiran, where the majority of refining infrastructure was before the Colony takeover of the island (iron refineries have since been constructed in Agusan on the west side of the island as the former city remains under siege). The forges produce fine iron weapons and ship components, however the very best of the iron has traditionally been reserved and shipped to Talunan, where the forgemasters can create magically imbued items in the Volcano Forge. Puthawanans are also renowned stonemasons, carving the cities of Sumilong into the seacliffs, and the Himpapawiran into the mountains. Stone statues originating from the craftsmen in Puthawanan are featured in prominent alters and gathering places throughout the islands.

Talunan

The unique heavy bamboo armor of the Islands is the most famous product of Talunan, fusing the thick and sturdy plates of the variety of bamboo only found here with iron chain mesh and cloths imported from Kandaya. The volcano forge at Iraga emits a constant sound of hammering as bellows pump to achieve insane furnace temperatures not found elsewhere. The result: the greatest potential for weapon crafting, with the right ingredients. Talunan also has great potential for larger scale production, as indicated in the section below. Furthermore, Masindi has also created a unique product, the miniature cannon called the Lantaka, which has sold to warriors and hunters alike throughout the islands.

Timanduk

If the industry exists in the islands, it can be found in Timanduk in the great city of Kaylahon. While natively the island mostly benefits from agricultural products sourced from the extreme fertility of the Ashen Fields, the large urban center attracts artisans and goods of all types. While many argue that the very best of any class of products must be sourced from the masters of the craft at other islands, travelers can find very good versions of these items here.

Large Scale Production

Large scale production is limited in the Islands of Sina Una. Before the arrival of the colony, there was little need to massively produce anything, with a much greater emphasis on seeking the highest quality components from their various locations on the islands: Iron Ore from Puthawanan, Mangrove Wood from the swamps of Kandaya, or Kotabalon's Mystical Obsidian. As the outside influence of the Colony brought military pressure to the islands, the clever Datu Masindi devised ways of expanding production to meet the defense needs of the Free Islands Alliance, however this has encountered issues with logistics as of late. Other forms reminiscent of Mass Production include the Salt Farms at Hanapin, which produces enough sea salt for all the Aswang Hunters of the Islands. The Colony Shipyard in the North Bay of Nasirakna is also applying foreign principles to the development of War Galleons and supporting vessels which will help carry the Colony flag throughout the Islands.
