Nasirakna Current Status

Current Status

The Colony has constructed a port the Northern Bay of the Island. This military installation is primarily for refitting ships which have sailed from outside the islands or receiving military supplies from Puthawanan. It also serves as the main staging area for assaults into Kotabalon.

In addition, The Colony has also seized effective control of the floating city of Sangdaangalon, which despite having the ability to move has remained anchored in the south eastern bay of Nasirakna. Local Nasiraknans on small watercraft will traverse the channels leading to the interior of the island allowing trade between Sangdaangalon and what the Colony believes to be two trading posts on the poisonous interior of the island. However...

The true extent of the settlements of Nahulog and Ingatan is far beyond that of a trading post. The native Nasiraknans have managed to keep the settlements a secret--however it is a matter of time before these leak out. It is unclear how the Colony will react to this information. Additionally, Colony Merchants have become increasingly curious about meats and furs traded by natives coming from the interior channels and have begun recruiting for an exploratory party to gather more information.

The Babaylan Indak works together with Babaylan Awa to maintain balance in the island, but it is tedious work. Indak works with Mangangayaw Scouts to confirm what was consumed by the Colony. Scouts will relay this information to Awa in the interior, who is requisitioning offerings taken by natives from Sangdaangalon up the interior channels. This flow of goods is sufficient for now for offerings to the Turtle Spirit Anino, but disruption to these supplies could have catastrophic consequences for both Nasiraknans and its Colony Occupiers.

Background

The Island of Nasirakna is perhaps the most quintessential image of nature in the islands. Rich in natural resources, poisonous plants, as well as exotic and powerful beasts, Nasirakna is full of abundance for those willing to risk the hunt. With moss covered rocks peaking from beautiful waterways throughout its geography creating difficult channels, it takes an expert to navigate. They say every Nasiraknan is an expert boat pilot as a result.

Nasiraknans above all else are devout in their worship of the spirits of nature. They are particularly protective of the spirit of the Turtle Anino, whose shell carries all of Nasirakna in their belief. When Colony ships appeared on their horizon, the Babaylan Sisters Indak and Awa urged the Datus Basa and Agati to protect the Blue Maw, believed to contain the mouth of the Turtle spirit. The large Colony ships could not navigate the channels with much success, they reasoned. Capitulating the coastal areas would protect the Blue Maw, allowing the Nasiraknans to continue to provide offerings to Agati and protect the island. Hearing reports from Puthawanan warriors escaping occupation, the Datu hoped to avoid armed conflict. The Datu created a party to meet the Colony ships as they landed on the shore. As they landed, the Datu and their Druids approached for conversation, explaining that the interior of the island was full of highly toxic plants and poisonous beasts. They welcomed the Colony to stay safely near shore and even to enter and use the hospitality of Sangdaangalon, the floating city of Nasirakna. With the Colony thinking they had achieved capitulation, they created settlements along the shore for refitting boats--generally heeding the warning of the Nasiraknans to avoid the interior of the island.

The Babaylan got their wish--with the Colony focused on territorial expansion outward, they were free to continue with offerings to Anino and maintain harmony on the island.

Faction Control

The Colony has full external control of Nasirakna

The Nasiraknans have control of the interior of the island including the settlements of Nahulog and Ingatan, but are relatively demilitarized.

Diplomacy

Nasiraknan hosts Colony ships of all kinds and Holy Trinity followers coming from outside the Islands, and trades supplies with Colony settlements on Puthawanan.

Traders from the Great City of Kaylahon from the Neutral Territory of Timanduk have routes to Sangdaangalon, the Colony allows this trade as it hopes to convince Timanduk to integrate willingly.

Trade from the other Islands is blockaded by patrols of Colony Ships along the South Shore

Colony Military Forces send regular raids against the south coast of Kotabalon, hoping to gain a foothold from which to conquer the rest of the island.

Key Figures

Datu Basa - A direct descendant of Ingatan’s founding babaylan, his ancestors called upon him to guide his people at a young age, giving their blessing in a dream. His main responsibilities include maintaining kinship with Saangdalong and Nahulog through trade, funerary practices, and communal feasting, and mobilizing his people in response to potential threats. (SI 97) Following the Colony Occupation, Datu Basa plays host to the political representatives of the Colony at Sangdaangalon, keeping them from gaining too much curiousity of the inner part of the island.

Babaylan Indak - Head Babaylan of Nahulog, this century old halfling is a well-known wanderer of the settlement. Rarely staying in one place, her presence is always felt. She is known for the golden-yellow Narra flowers that decorate her hair, and how their honey scent is carried along with her stories by the wind. Preserver of Nahulog’s history, she often leads prayers and festivals, acting as a medium to earn the trickster’s favor. Many seek Babaylan Indak for a blessing upon their talismans, or for a reading when the Wind shifts. (101) Due to her wandering nature, Babaylan Indak is responsible for venturing out into the world to monitor the Colony and requisition sufficient offerings in exchange for their consumption.

Babaylan Awa - In contrast to her sister, Babaylan Awa remains still. She is often found by their ancestor’s resting place, The Twin Falls, readying herbs and preparing medicine by the water’s edge. She welcomes those who travel by river to Nahulog and guides them to the village. Babaylan Awa is known as a seeker of omens, communing with the spirits and easing trader’s travel. A kind-hearted woman with strong ties to the other settlements, many seek her for medicine to take along their journeys. (101) In staying next to Nahulog, Babaylan Awa coordinates the offerings made to Agati.

Datu Agati - Though considered young among other elves, Datu Agati is well respected as Nahulog’s guardian. Never without his kubing and flute, this nimble elf is found among the highest mushroom caps of Kingfisher’s Wings. He was the first to develop the songs and calls that the settlements know protect them. Once having travelled with the Sandaangalong, he brought to the village knowledge of the places beyond this settlement, and the dangers elsewhere in the land. Datu Agati knows that while favor comes to those on higher ground, Makulit may blow an arrow astray. As such, while he prefers to hone his skills with practice, he is always present when Babaylan Indak calls to Makulit. (101) He monitors the interior channels leading to Nahulog, interfering with the journeys of outsiders to keep the settlement safe from detection.

Admiral Michel Lepezpi - Colony Governor of Nasirakna, travels back and forth between Saangdalong and the Colony Armada Docks on the North Side of the Island, and supervises the blockade to the south of the Island along the horizontal parallel. He is one of the most decorated Admirals in the Colony Navy, and is known for brilliant fleet combat using Colony War Galleons.
