Trolls

General Info

A truth about the troll species comes from what most scientest have agreed to be the correct state of evolution. From the toth were born a primitive race called the trolls that shared the abilities of the weakest Slaadi of the time. Leading many to believe that the creatures origin alongside the orcs, the goblinkin of silencia, and the trolls we know of in the modern era, all originate with slaadi "runts" or the weakest spliced and interbred with the trolls to create the pseudotrolls we know of from the first age. The Pseudotrolls would go on to found the multitude of families as those who escaped or were set free would intrebreed with the lesser trolls in the area. What we were told appeared to be nothing more then a variant of the magical dire ape beasts that came in a greenish coloration and where slightly larger but less magical then there western kin. As those that escape would form these families, new forms of trolls would be created, each was said to be a pet project of one of the powerful arc bisop. In hopes of both creating the ultimate war machine, but as well with the hopes of entertainment as they would fight for the amusement of the toth nobles. In truth, the trolls existance from origin to modern day was nothing more then a tragedy that saw unsung heros fly far to close to the sun. And as any good tragedy drama is known to do, the trolls while they would see there highest rise in the first age, it would not be soon after that the race would fall to the sands of history.   Language: Scyth

City info

Here we shall list the specific city info if any is listed for the cities history.

Seji's Retreat

A city known for it's vast marble streets that are dotted with vast amounts of colorium, giving the city the nickname "Streets of a Thousand Views" as the artists of history would call it. The city is noted for not having a single wall, and instead expanding naturally around the mountain in the northern lands. Slowly growing as more trolls come to settle the lands, the city is noted for having brought in hundreds of thousands of trolls to a central point. As the city continues to expand more difficulties are found, however great roads have begun construction from the many small port clans that have set up around the territories of the north. Allowing for a few merchants who have managed to understand the troll language to trade, though most notebly the city has a ban on Ork, Orc, and Ogre slave traders within the lands. The rest of the city is quite normal with it's primitive design of stone slabs and rocks that are roughly shaped to be slapped together using hot colorium to hold them in place. When the metal cools, it is said to keep the house always the needed temperature as the colors show exactly what temperature the houses need to be. Or so was the logic of the trolls of the first age.

Technology periods

Here we shall discuss the main technological discoveries by this race.

Arcane Will

Though the only race noted to innately be able to use psionic and arcane powers, the troll species and all who would descend from them to a lesser degree were said to have powers to shape the world around them. Though through a catch, with the use of both psionic powers and innate arcane spell casting, the troll is able to naturally both regenerate its body at will. There are even some stories of them using colors to change the outcomes of physics. With there understanding of colorium, it is said that a troll gifted with the greatest arcane will can use stone to turn to gold by painting it yellow. Or enhancing there physical abilities by either painting themselves green or red, it seems that when included with death ore and colorium some gifted are even capable of destroying entire cities at a thought. Though these gifts were said to come at the cost of the chaotic mentality of the user. Few gifted with arcane will to the greatest extents were considered sane, as many could not focus there own intelligence without causing a wild magical outburst of psionic will power.

Hierarchy

Here we shall discuss how the overall ladder of power is designed in this races territories.

Spaka

Though trolls were known to worship many they saw as strong, the unfortunate reality is reflected in there naming convention. The term Spaka in the original toth scripts means "Stupid Mut", however as a pseudotroll who was said to be the first to escape would take this name and free a large herd of his people. The name became synonmous with the highest respect amongst the troll people. Though if called this in front of a toth, you will hear nothing but snickering and outright laughter. However, in front of a troll this term will cause armies to bend to your words. Only two have ever gained the title, the first was Spaka himself who would free his people in an elaborate escape that took six months to perform. And Seji, who out of respect for Spaka's title and deeds, Seji refused the name of as to not taint its deeds with his own.

Prototh

The direct translation in toth script is "The Mightest", a title given to a proud and old troll champion who had even managed to defeat his master to gain his freedom. Originally owned by Andhra "The Hungry Blade", Prototh was said to have taught the young toth how to fight like a troll or rather to fight with strength and violence as he would be heard to call it. Having managed to in his old age, defeat his master after an offer was made, the Prototh would give his arm and two fingers to his master in exchange for the victory. Said to have taken his family and the entirety of the troll slave population out of the city or so what Prototh thought was the entirety of its population. He would escape to settle a small settlement said to later become Seji's Retreat. This title is given to those amongst the toth who are considered undefeated in battle.

Sparkies

The term given to those gifted with the arcane will to one extent or another. Contrary to toth public research, not all trolls can use colorium to the same ability. Though those who are able to are called "Sparkies" as a common term derived from the troll prononciation of Arc Bisop sounding more like "Sp-Ark-ises". Or that is what the toth have written, in truth it was a common joke the trolls seemed to use to insult and call the toth "to smart, gonna blow up". As many trolls saw magic as nothing but dangerous and explosive, not understanding the other schools outside of conjuration.

Nobility

Here we shall discuss notable noble houses through the time periods.

Seji "The Bigg Brain" Of Toth

Known to have been the last to escape the toth lands when his clan was captured, Seji would find himself named Bigg for his ungodly sized arms and his strange love for disguising himself as a strong titan. Seji would be noted for his natural form that seemed almost a chaotic gathering of flesh that moved and fidgeted with unnatural movements constantly. It is believed that Seji's brain however was the size of an elder brain, and capable of disguising itself and using powerful illusion magic. This has led many historians to believe that the Toth had captured a weakened elder brain and put it into a Pseudotroll that had been already gifted with intelligence beyond it's means. Thus creating what we now know as Seji "The Bigg Brain" Of Toth, a pseudotroll that at will can morph and harden its body. Seji is known for his high cunning but lack of personal battle experience, with many noting that Yuve would usually lead the vast hordes into battle while Seji watched from a vantage point guiding his vast hordes to easy victories. Though one would be caught dead to believe that Seji was not capable in battle, more to the contrary in fact. Seji was noted as one of the highest ranked Oath Takers to The Great Sky Leaker, capable of summon storms with his axe and throwing divine bolts of light at his enemies. However, while Seji had this great power, historically he was seen to rarely use it, even less once Seji had returned with Yuve from the Plane of Elements.

Royals throughout history

Here we shall mention royals that have a historical value of sorts.

Current Nobility

Here we shall discuss the current ages nobles and royals

Huld "The Lass" of Toth

Known to be a troll of larger features, Huld is said to be the size of a small house. With arms capable of lifting hundred year old trees out of the ground in a single pull, many adventurers have been led to their deaths when mispeaking to Huld's gender. To the point that Huld, out of an extreme hatred for the misjudgement, had a wanted poster put out with her gender listed as her name. Enjoying in the fact that many now strong and handsome potential partners would arrive calling her lass as she wanted. Though many have tried to slay her, a few young dragons, an illithid who had gone rogue, as well as a Jotun who Huld would take to marriage through proof of strength. Huld is noted for her hatred of Seji and his power over the other trolls, though satiated with her current family life, it is believed that as Huld was expected to become the next Seji. However, when she had begun to unify the rest of the lands, it was noted that upon hearing she would lose her nickname, she refused to conquer any further. Deciding to instead return to her home in the southern lands where she was last seen beginning to fortify a small town. Though still unmarked on the worlds maps throughout the beginning of the first age, who will know what time will show.

Yuve "The Eternal Flame" of Flame

An elemental troll who has grown to the size of an elder elemental and with the power of nearly a monolith fire elemental, many have noted that Yuve is the only elemental troll to be able to walk amongst the sunlight. Believed to be a staunch ally of Seji's, it is said that Yuve gained his nickname and blessing from the Plane of Elements. It is said it was here that Seji would take the young elemental troll in exchange for his clans alliance with Seji and servitude. As the two would enter, months would go by until they returned with Seji being twice the size he had been and Yuve had been granted the title of "The Eternal Flame" now with strange markings all across his body. Many believe that Yuve would become the servant to the primordial goddess through his travels, or an even more powerful elemental that had not yet awoken to the material plane. What is known, is that Yuve leads the second largest coalition of trolls within the lands, having unified the entirety of the underdarks population of elemental trolls underneath his throne. Though still serving Seji religiously, Yuve is also known for hunting illithid within the underdark to keep their population down and away from the trolls.

Trelbrek "The Lesser Oath" of Oath Taken

The first lesser troll to become an oath taker and to rise to the rank of Grand Master of the Oath Taken clan. Trelbrek is known for his short stature, hunched back, and greenish red skin with a long nose noted throughout the history books as red and intimidating. Trelbrek was believed to be constantly filled with rage as he would find himself on the road every other month. As Trelbrek had sworn an oath to the previous Seji to rid the world of both Toth and ThriKreen, and that he would not stop battling until he had, that was two hundred years ago. Now a grizzled, angry and quite ugly looking troll, Trelbreks long white beard is noted for buzzling through the constant windstorms of the southern portion of the continent. As Trelbrek and his clan find themselves fighting on both sides constantly moving to one battle after the next. Trelbrek is noted for having slain thousands of ThriKreen and over twenty toth of master rank or higher. He is noted for his hatred for the current Seji but also his lack of willpower to stop him as he fulfills his own oath.
Current Royal Family

Current Notable Noble houses
Though not a culture that used noble houses, it should be noted that trolls named themselves based on ability. Thus those of the of toth are known more commonly as Sparkies amongst the trolls as they are gifted each with a variant illithid parasite and were considered the greatest and strongest amongst the familiess. Another example of oath taken meaning those who have taken an oath and now band together or of flame which means a flame troll specifically the subspecies Elemental Troll (Fire). There naming conventions would usually reflect the kind of troll they were or the ability they specialized in. Though the family names recorded should be noted to be based on toth script, and not original troll accounts. As many historians would note that there family names were very similar to the nicknames they would give themselves or would be given as a show of respect and individuallity on the battlefield.

Events/Holidays

We shall begin to discuss notable holidays and events in this culture. Explaining further on where they come from and what goes on during them.

ThriKreen Blessings

Known historically amongst the many troll tribes to be a blessing, it is believed that since many troll clans would hibernate during the harsh winters to avoid starvation, when the spring would begin and nothing had been hunted or gathered, the trolls would awaken to the ThriKreen attacking their lands and giving the trolls a free meal to avoid madness. Many trolls have been noted throughout the first age to specifically hunt certain kinds of ThriKreen, some historians believe this was due to the hope of gaining the insectoids abilities. The ThriKreen Blessing would also turn into a feast amongst the northern trolls who rarely had to deal with the raids and would instead use it to mark the beginning of the growing season.

Religious beliefs

Here we shall discuss the different religious beliefs in this races history throughout the periods.

Great Sky Leaker

A god said to have once been a song dragon who was sick with a great disease. From this great disease many of the Pseudotrolls believe they were born. Now believed to be amongst the Pseudotrolls serving as a guide for their abilities. Each Pseudotroll is noted for having a strange mutated wooden statue of Great Sky Leaker represented as a mutated looking song dragon with troll like features. It should be noted that these strange mutations do seem to be poisonous to consume, thus leaving most pseudotrolls with an almost natural repellent to the thrikreen.

Known diseases

Here we shall discuss known diseases to be active and/or discovered or cured during the different time periods of these races

Greening

A disease in which by consuming any of the fruits from the Forest of Tears in the northern edges, causes the consumer to turn a pale green. The more often the troll eats these fruits the greener they become. This is also supposedly linked to growth amongst the body of the consumer as this fruit stimulates growth hormones throughout the entire body. However, this fruit if eaten in large amounts is also known to poison the consumer. To the point where their body will begin to shrivel and cause damage that is unrepairable by the arcane.

Big Braining

Said to be a disease that only affected those marked amongst the "Sparkies" and those who claim the title of Toth. As many seem to have either a mutated form or an exact illithid parasite within there brains that are noted to be in a dormant like state. As the trolls who are gifted with these parasites grow stronger and more magically capable, so do they become psionically more capable. As the parasites seem to react to the magic, almost feeding off the mana veins of the creatures they are implanted in. As the parasite grows, the brain grows with it and the troll becomes more powerful. Eventually this has been known to cause the skull to rupture and the body to breakdown if it is incapable of feeding both its body and the parasite. The parasite will eventually eat the brain at that point leaving its host brain dead to feed the parasite before it dies with the body or escapes to a new host. This to the trolls is considered the most dangerous factor of the arcane will.

Other Characters of note

Here we shall discuss other characters of note directly influence this race.

Anatomy

Here we shall both provide a design as well as an explanation of the anatomy of the race in question.     (image of race)

Ability score increase

Trolls of all types gain a +3 to there constitution and either a +1 to dexterity or strength as chosen by the player. However, all trolls take a -2 to intelligence in exchange for these great physical gifts.

Age

Trolls are noted to be naturally immortal for the most part. Though there bodies will eventually stop regenerating if they don't eat or have no excess fat for there body to "power" the regeneration effect. Thus Trolls will live naturally forever if left alone. Though troll society can vary based on the more primal hordes of the eastern continent of olympia or the slaves of the west in crakec. But most come of age at twelve years as there bodies stop naturally increasing without greater training and feats of strength.

Phenotypes

Trolls come in the colors of the rainbow, though most sub species do have specific colorations, most vary as they will also paint there bodies in colorium which is noted to be unable to be removed once bonded to the skin.

Height and Weight

Varying depending on the individual troll sub species, but orcs or slave trolls as the common tongue calls them, are noted to be similar in height to humans to goliaths depending on. Trolls of the east follower similar statures and weights, tending to be more akin to hefty and sometimes rotund goliaths.

Alignment

Chaotic is the only known common alignment though many seem to tend toward good due to there rulers influence.

Speed

The average troll can move 60ft every six seconds, thus making them quite capable sprinters, not unlike the feline races of the western cracked lands.

Founding

Here we shall explain when the race came to be, how it came to be, and whom it is credited to and where.   A race said to have been made from the first deal with the Slaadi and the Toth Arc Bisop at the time of the founding of there covenant. As the two species were said to have worked together, the slaadi akin to the toth, saw there weakest as nothing more then tools to be used by the strong. Thus it is said that the species called the troll would be made by forcing the weaker toth, slaadi and captured primitive trolls to interbreed. A species with the regenerative tissue of the slaadi, the toths innate magical capacity and the trolls strong yet stable and capable body. A war machine, thus the first pseudotrolls would be born and let lose into the wild by the toth and slaadi to see what would become of the creatures. It is said that not much longer after that the creatures were being refined by each of the Arc Bisops in hopes of creating the ultimate weapons, these specialized trolls would later go on to found the families and later sub species of many of the trolls we know in the modern age.
As the time would go on, the creatures would grow in grander numbers then expected and with no immediate enemies the toth had no choice but to allow the creatures to begin escaping. Giving them minor hope and a goal not to kill there masters with there incredible strength but rather escape when they began to feel aggression. An ingenius plan that would work for a time, though eventually the toth would be forced to accept the race and its numbers as they began sending envoys to other nations. Opening up trade, and becoming one of the largest producers of unique art through canvas painting and sculpting. A species born for war would rise for freedom and seek glory through art. Though as many grand dramas of the first age reflect, the trolls would soon learn in the first age that even there closest friends were never truly friends at all.
